What is Memorial Day?

I had a guy ask me a few days ago, why is "Memorial Day" a national holiday:angry:. I could'nt believe what, I had have just been asked.
MEMORIAL DAY IS A SALUTE TO OUR FALLEN AND WOUNDED HERO'S, OF ALL WARS, AND CONFLICTS (KOREA)!

WE SHOULD ALL KNOW AND NEVER FORGET THIS IMPORTANT DAY!!!

IT IS THE REASON WE AMERICAN'S, ARE A FREE COUNTRY AND ENJOY OUR GREAT COUNTRY AND IT FREEDOMS.

toward Patriotism in "The Land of the Free and The Home of the Brave."

Yes ...... I know ....... It's Non-Pool-Related, but I'm saying it anyway.

I think our country would be much better off if everyone regardless of status would be required to serve 2 years.
I really don't think you would see all the crap you do today if they did. They would have a whole new found respect for the USA!

To all of those Veterans’ out there: Thank you for the freedom you have provided to me and my family.
Your sacrifice will not be forgotten or taken lightly.
 
Hopefully, everyone at 3 PM local time will take time from their BBQs to observe a minute of silence in remembrance of memorial day.

I just came back from lunch and after watching my local American Legion (post 1291) conduct their ceromony.
 
I met my best friend when I was 2 years old, we moved next door to him. Eighteen years later Feb 26, 1967 he died in Vietnam, I remember and honor him to this day. I'm of mixed opinion about whether we (and him by extension) should have been there, but regardless he and all other Americans who died fulfilling their duty anytime, anywhere deserve to be honored and more importantly remembered. We should also remember those who served and didn't die. I never saw combat, but I served. Many of those who saw combat carry that weight until the day they die years later. I saw it among my my parent's generation (WWII) and among my generation (Vietnam). They deserve remembrance too.
