Who knows about the misunderstanding between Archer and Strckland? What politics and that jump cue discussion with Takahashi? Can AZBilliards send us to a link of the news?

If I am correct, it happened last year at WPC when Takahashi pulled out his jump stick and Strickland dared him to put it away and told him to "Be a man" and shoot the cueball most probably through a kickshot. Takahashi fell for it, put away his jump stick, kicked, missed big time, and eventually lost the match :D. I'm sure others have better details than mine.

earl was being earl once again. takahashi was upset at the incident.

earl was given a warning, and sat like a choir-boy the rest of the tournament. i'll tell you something,,,you'll never see earl pull that crap against busta,,,,which tells me that earl had NO respect for takahashi, and showed it.

but if you're going to compete at the pro level, you can't let that stuff bother you. takahashi gave in.

My understanding is that Earl did think about playing in Tokyo this year, but was under the impression that is conflicted with Glass City.

He can probably shed more light on that one though.

Earl is a great pool player. What I really don't understand is why he still appears to have all his teeth? You'd think that someone would have clobbered him good by now for all the crap he's pulled over the years. There has to be quite a few players out there that don't like him. Of course not many of the top players are going to risk hurting their hands in a fight so maybe that's the answer. Too bad someone with all that talent doesn't have a little class to go with it.

is he (earl) really that bad? i saw him personally and talked to him in the recently concluded on-cue 2 here in the philippines for a short while and i thought he was a nice person.

I saw him at the midwest expo doing exhibitions, pictures, and interacting with the crowd. In that setting, he was nice as pie. Dennis

Hi Locki,

Earl is one of the nicest people I know until you place him in a competative arena. He wants to win. I mean win at all costs. He has done some things that would embarrass his mother. All done to put him in a position to win. Whether it is on billiard slate or well manicured grass, Earl wants to win. I expect that if he chose to race automobiles, he would have been known as the "Intimidator" not Dale Earnhart.

And what is wrong with that?

I don't hear you criticizing Dale Earnhart and his antics are legend and could actually kill someone.

How about football players? Off the field they are peaches and cream but get on the field with them and all they want to do is knock your head clean off. Or boxers? Or baseball players? Ever see a player going from 1st to 2nd on a double play and he slides midway between the bases and never reaches 2nd? Why? Because he knows that 2nd baseman is going to throw that ball to first on a line and if your head is in the way that is your problem.

And when you say "at all costs" and "has done some things that would embarrass his mother" that is meaningless unless you mention what you mean by those words.

Ever listen to words that a football players says on the field? Or a catcher?

I guess all of you just grew up in a nice protected environment.

Much to everybody's surprise when they meet Earl Strickland in person, he is actually a nice guy. His antics at the table seem provide good smut material for forums, but anybody who has ever seen him play knows he is a master of his craft and takes the game very seriously.

I remember reading this in AzBilliards Headline News:

“It was the third successive match in which a referee's decision had a vital impact on the final rack of Pagulayan. He was given ball-in-hand when American Rodney Morris took his hand off his cue when measuring the angles and was given the chance to replay a shot against Shin-Young Park after a young spectator moved around the table. “

The various rules used in different world-class venues may provide some problems during competition for the pro players who travel the circuit.

Seems to me Jake, the fans loved Dale. Virtually no competative driver at the time (except Jimmy Spencer) would dare to criticize him publicly. I think they called it career suicide. Look what happened to Bill Simpson. His products were the best available period. I along with most other SCCA drivers used them correctly. Dale didn't. Bill had to file a lawsuit against NASCAR in order to clear his name and reputation. As for not mentioning Dale before, I wish to correct you. In an earlier thread on Earl, I believe his UPA "resignation", I voiced the same thoughts.

"And when you say "at all costs" and "has done some things that would embarrass his mother" that is meaningless unless you mention what you mean by those words."

Jake, I chose not to repeat comments I made on this forum before. Whether here in Rochester, in Reno, at Country Club USA in Boston, the US Open, the World Championships on live TV to the rest of the world, why repeat them? I count Earl as a friend but, I don't condone his tantrums.

"I guess all of you just grew up in a nice protected environment."

People in glass houses.... Jake, I've done things in my life that I'm not proud of. I "know" Earl because of my past. I've tried so hard in recent years, including personal apologies, to correct them. You can never make them right. But you can try!

"and what is wrong with that?"

Because the harm you cause other people. Just because they don't punch, slap or verbally abuse him does not mean they agree. Some cultures have better manners than ours.
