what is the best 250 to 400 dollar range cue?

as stated above what is the best $250 to $400 range cue on the market non sneaky pete? for deflection sound of hit and tip as well I've been playing with the fuji medium which I do like. the playing cue I use now is a good cue in my mind I don't think the cue really effects much but would like to have something that is a bit more flashy when I go to tournaments that works and deflects well. I might just get an ob 2 shaft instead of a whole new cue.
I think your best bet is to ask around the pool hall for used cues. It's nice to have new, but used can be a much better bargain. Also, you can play with the cue before you buy it. I've made the mistake of buying a cue sight unseen but with a good reputation and then when it arrived it was pretty bad.

Did you say flashy?

If you like a lot of bang for the buck, check out the JD Cues. The fit and finish isn't Joss quality but you will get big cue style at low cost. If you play LD shafts, then find a used Joss, low end Schon or even Adams Balabushka (sorry, Adams homer) and shove a 5/16 14 Tiger or OB Classic and you're set.

I was thinking of that *exact* cue when I mentioned Lucasi. What are the odds...

And it's limited production. This is a cue I think I would really like but I don't like the idea of buying any cue sight unseen. So I'm having one built. I'm currently playing with a Dale Perry that I've changed the tip, ferrule, wrap, shaft diameter and taper to my liking. To the OP any cue you buy you will probably want to change things like these to get it just the way you want it. Also check out this thread:

http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=320493

It talks about measureman's lucasi and how he changed an off the rack cue around to get it just the way he likes it. The "Mighty Lucasi" now has a reputation all of it's own. It's not likely you'll buy a production cue and have it be perfect which is why myself and others recommend going custom.

I had looked at that exact same lacasi before very tempting and I know I won't be disappointed. I guess that's what I'll try to go for.

For my money, the OB-128 is one of the nicest looking, quality cues, that can be had new for < $500, out there.

It doesn't have points, inlays, etc... but it's really pretty wood (maple and bocote) and comes with your choice of OB shaft. I've been playing the OB-1 shaft for a couple years and am in love with it. They really do make some of the best low deflection shafts available.

Here is the link to the cue's description on their website: http://www.obcues.com/products/OB%2d128-Pool-Cue-Bocote-and-Birdseye,-No-Wrap.html

MSRP is $495, but I've seen it at a few different online retailers in the $420 range.

Good Luck!

If you buy from AZMarketplace there's a 5% APA discount that puts the OB-128 and 129 under $400. Pretty woods, classy rings and one of the best LD shafts out there. Also there are a few J-line cues (OB designed but made by Joss) in that price range. If you don't care about having an LD shaft then a Rat cue is a good option as well, really pretty exotic wood combos available and no more then $415.

Universal Cues are some of the best buys for the money with low deflection shafts, black Kamui tips, etc.... They are the same people who make some of the most popular brands of cues in the world.

I am pretty sure I'm getting a Meucci hof-2 with an uncoated wrap. its just flashy enough to get noticed and I got one heck of a deal.

no its not an old one its a brand new cue. and if there is a problem meucci will fix it they have a new warranty. so i am not going to worry about it. any warping or imperfections that are cause by the manufacture are all covered. i am very wary about buying from cue manufactures. i've been treated badly before by a billiards company webb billiards is more about quality than quantity. if someone is willing to work this hard to make my order go smoothly I'm pretty sure he will have my business.
