i've heard some people say it doesn't matter what kind of break you use on the box b/c you can't make the same ball consistently like on a 9footer. anybody have any different opinions?
The first one you mentioned. Q ball on the head string lined up with one of the pockets is very consistent.
Left or right corner pocket. One diamond in and one up where the lines would intersect.
I agree with his suggestion from the pocket line, but I have been using this break lately, and end up better. (though it used to be against my religion)
Place the cueball at the intersection of the 1st diamond of the foot and side rails(maybe a TAD in front of the 1st diamond.) Whichever side you break from, play around 15/16 or 31/32 of a full hit. The cueball misses all that kissing going on and should end up 1 diamond from the middle of table.
The lead(1) ball, a corner-ball and one of the 2 rear balls have a decent chance. On nappier cloth I play the same break with about 1/8th tip of draw and a slight elevation. The slight hop of the cueball keeps it still, and the slight draw allows fricton to keep the cueball from flying forward on the hop/.....

When I played on bb alot, daily, I broke 9 ball from the center, or near, mostly. I even bridged off the end rail much of the time. Lots of power and cb keeps out of the way better.
