What is the difference between Hercek and Rauenzahn full spliced cue?

When most cue makers get to a certain stature with a long waiting list they quite often won't work on cues other than their own.

With very few exceptions:

Barry Szam is at that level
Ernie Gutierrez is at that level.
Tony at Black Boar is at that level.
Tad will only work on Tad cues.
Hercek is at that level with a lifetime waiting list he will only build his cues and work on his own to respect his previous customers.

Jerry R is not at that level yet. Probably an oversight by players and collectors, but at this point true. I'm sure when this guy gets done insulting everyone that doesn't see it his way, Jerry R will rise in stature, his cues will immediately become worth more on the secondary market than Jerry charges for them, he will sport a 10 year waiting list and he will only work on his own stuff too.

Hey Kevin, I never insulted anyone on her that didn't get rude first, got it.
Moreover, I'm not going to be told from somebody what I should like and want.
And If I don't agree then I don't know what I'm talking about. I don't care what cue maker it is. So back off with the I'm insulting and don't see it other peoples way.
You don't know me.

Yup "got it", but if the shoe doesn't fit, how do you know I was referring to you?

That "the other guy started it" is a very powerful argument.

For six year olds.

OP:

Snob:
What a stupid question, you don't know shit.
RP:
Why is that?
Snob:
Because i'm on a ten year waiting list.
RP:
That doesn't make sense.
Snob:
Yeah, because your jealous of my money and cues.
RP:
I think your a jerk and a snob.
Snob:
How dare you, and the nerve to disagree. Your insulting.

You dont get a 20 year waiting list unless a lot of people like your cues.

Joel makes some awesome "old school" cues as well.

Yeah Joel has a cool style, old school with respect to Spain and updated to his own style. Plus you can look at his stuff an know its his stuff. That's a talent.

Tony is the same way, he way innovates and does some fancy designs, yet you can look and know its a Boar right away. Gina and Tad too, but after 50 years, we are all pretty familiar with their work.

I respect and appreciate your opinion your knowledge, so I will tread lightly. I think that the CNC used in cue making is akin to PED's in sports. I don't think Joel has preserved history as much as he has taken cue building to the next level with the help of that machinery. I have never seen Joel's restoration work but from what I understand restoration is more difficult than building a new cue. I have seen Jerry's restoration and show me finer. He has kept billiard history alive. For a contribution to your craft that's hard to top. In a hundred years there will be techniques in machinery and tooling that will make today's work pale in comparison. There is a certain look and feel to authentic hand made pieces. And those will always stand the test of time.

Joel refinished my Spain cue 2 years ago, it was over 30 years old and in terrible condition.... many on here have seen my Spain, and yet nobody on here will say it was anything less than perfection when I got it back.

And the guy I sold it to will be at the Cue Show next month in Chicago with his complete collection of Spain cues, and it will be available for all to see. Again, I encourage anyone to look at it and make their own comments about the quality of the restoration. Just ask him to see "RJ's" old Spain, he'll show it to you !

Of course.

I tried to have Joel make me a cue out of a Spain shortie blank I had about 4 years ago and he said he really wanted to work on his own stuff and I respected that. I'm super glad to hear he worked on a Spain restoration as that is only right.

Oh, so I'm guessing the spain shortie blank is now for sale ;) Just asking :)

Nah that was a while ago. Ernie made a pretty good looking cue out of it (I got the Spain blanks from him to begin with - he had them unused stuffed in a drawer for 30 years). Unless I'm confused on cues (he built 3 or 4 more me) he actually built this cue for a guy I sold the shortie to.

we are not talking repair work we are talking full splice construction ,, also some blanks that were / are made are not always made by the best cue makers, many cue makers use or used someone elses blank ,, Jerry makes a great blank ,, thats all we need to know for this threads discusion its not about who is a better cue maker or repair man
