What is the one shot that you have trouble making?

No matter the game, 8 ball, 9 ball, One Pocket, 10 ball, or 14-1. What shot gives you a hard time trying to make it? Thank you for your input!

Shooting into a side pocket on a diamond table, not talking about straight in's something with somewhat of an angle.

I like these threads you make Lock N Load keep it up

I am glad you like my threads. I thank you for your compliment as well! Good post on your part. A Diamond table has tight pockets and the shot you are talking about is not always easy! Put yourself 5 balls in the middle of the table, space them 6" apart, put them long ways on the table with the center ball straight in the side pocket and the rest of the balls in line with the first ball. Place the cue ball towards the other side pocket and practice shooting the balls in the side all of the balls in the same side pocket! This will help your shape and help you with shooting balls on and angle in the side. Let me know how you make out!!!

Straight in shots off the rail. Going the long way. No real problem side to side or even angled from side to side but lengthwise I'm so far off it blows my mind. I try to practice but how can you get better when you can't make more than one in a row(when I get lucky). So I figure that if I'm seeing incorrectly I'll just compensate, right? That don't seem to work either. Whats really funny is how many times I leave myself exactly that shot when I know I can't make it. Pretty frustrating.

Take your time and practice that shot 30 minutes a day, just that shot. Nothing else until your time is up with that shot! Do not worry about missing the shot. Just practice it for the time I listed. Then do your regular practice. Let me know how you make out! Do not even think about the shot just practice it, OK? Thanks for your sharing.

If I were you I would experiment with different types of rail bridges and make sure you stay down. Also it is tougher to find center ball on the rail so try some shots with a stripe as cue ball and see if you are putting unintended english on the cue ball.Sometimes I have a tendency to peek on those shots because I dislike them. Switch things up to try and improve your confidence on those types of shots.

I will say all the shots when the cue ball is frozen to the rail. I can't aim properly. I always think that I'm aiming right but when I shoot I always miss

Aiming???

Paul, may I suggest you going to the Aiming Subform. :rotflmao1::rotflmao1:

Not picking on you Paul. I just wanted to be the first to say that.

Somehow, the air seems fresher here.

my hardest shot is a long straight in shot where the object ball is close to the pocket and the cue ball is on the rail at the other end of the table. most of the time i miss it or scratch when i do make it.

that shot cost me the match tonight:(

that is an easy shot to practice, you have half a pocket to shoot at to avoid the scratch. I wish my demons were as easily avoidable.
Not saying anything about your game, just suggesting another way to deal with the shot??
Good luck

The problem most people have hitting off the rail is that they put slight unintended english on the ball and it causes the cue ball to curve a little before it hits the object ball. This may cause the illusion of poor aim because if you are aimed corectly, but the cue ball curves, you will nearly always miss (and if you have a somewhat consistant stroke, you will miss in the same direction).

There are several ways to help make the ball in this position.

1) Hit DEAD center. Easier said than done, but probably the best way.

2) Hit harder. Hitting harder reduces the curve in the shot, thus making you slightly more accurate. The only problems are that many people stroke less accurately when hitting harder (especially when jacked up) and that you will sacrifice some degree of cue ball control with this method.

3) Angle your cue more parallel to the table bed. A more parallel cue reduces any curve you might put on the ball to some degree. This may seem difficult to do because you are jacked up on the rail, but if you experiment a little, you will likely find that you can hit the ball more with a more level cue than what is intuitive, especially with softer speeds.

4) Shoot while accounting for the curve. If you put english on the ball purposefully and just account for the deflection and curve, there are plently of instances where it is easier to make the ball rather than just straight center. This takes quite a bit of experimentation and feel to pull off effectively, but helps out often.

The shots I have trouble making are the medium difficulty shots that follow a great recovery shot or a series of tough shots. In other words, I tend to underestimate shots when they don't seem challenging.

The greater percentage of players have just one problem: to shoot straight. If you can t shoot straight you have problems with every shot.
that s it.

for other specific shots, may it be off the rail, or whatever....the table time will fix it.

Very good info. You sound like a good pool player! Concentration can and will help the shots you are having problems with! Focus is a better word for the same problem. Take your time with easy shots just like you would with a hard shot! Thanks for your input.

jacked up in the middle of the table, even better when the ball i'm bridging over is frozen to the CB so I pretty much can't get any of sort of action more than a small roll :/

That only really refers to mid table shots... I actually really like shooting jacked up over a ball if I have the height of the rail to help me.

Could you go into more detail about these blind pocket shots? Thanks.

i think he is referring to shots that due to line of shot the pocket is not in you field of vision. This is usually a steep cut to the backside.
