Does anyone here know? I called Chris Hightower's number but there was no answer. I need to know asap as I am trying to get an estimate for crating and shipping and I'd like a more precise weight. I'd approximate the weight to be around 150 lbs but obviously if it less than that then shipping would be less.

Thanks,
Chris

92 lbs

i just sold a hightower delux, i sent it in two boxes, i used the original box the lathe can in from hightower. the lathe in the cardboard carton weighed 92 lbs. i sent all the small pieces in a separate carton. shipping from missouri to california was $117.00 for both boxes ups, insured for 2k.

If you can box it in two or three boxes it should be a little under your 150 lbs mark. If you crate it in a 2'x8'x1' crate it will weigh around 230 lbs. That is the only way I suggest for inexperienced shippers to ship. UPS handles them roughly and you really need to pack it well or send it truck freight assembled in a crate. Keep the long box as light as possible.

Thank you. I am crating it to make sure it is not damaged.
Once you crate it make sure everything is very secure. I screw the lathe cabinet down to the 3/4" crate bottom plywood. Run some 2 x 4's under that to allow fork lifts to pick it up. Last but most important is insure the thing for full value. Also call some freight brokers as they will probably get you a lot better deal than you just calling a freight company.

When I sold my deluxe I put all the accesories including the head stock in a smaller box. Then I went to a local factory where my father inlaw worked and made a box out of some 3/4" thick corigated cardboard for the lathe. That kept the package under weight and under sized. That kept my shipping costs down to under $100 + insurance for both packages. Now I dont remember where I shipped the lathe but I do know that it two days to get their..
