Its all about the nine ball!!!!! I am beginner and I love how nine ball forces you to set up the next shot, it has helped my game tremendously.

Publicly, I'd like to say...

First off, I have to say the Samiel beat my tail in all the games we played yesterday. I had lots of fun matching up with him and will look forward to a rematch! :p

Ronoh,

Samiel (from here on AZB) and I played 38 for a while yesterday. We had a blast! That game is the nuts when it comes to fun. I even had a game that I went over the score on. UGGG! But I gotta tell you, you talk about a great time! Thanks again for sharing that. :D

Oh and SAMIEL, thanks for the butt whioopin'!

You're welcome Donovan :)

And, thank you for the accolades.

I hope one day that this game is used in more and more tourneys, and used by instructors to help their students understand the benifits of recognizing when to set up for a billiard.

Heh, I think we were closely matched with me edging you out a bit. :p

I'll have to say One Pocket is my current favorite game, but Straight Pool is quickly coming up there. I just don't have anyone to play it against!

38 was really fun to play and you should have won our little set if you hadn't accidentally made that 3-ball! :D

We'll have to do it against sometime!

BTW, I was just re-reading the rules to 38 and it looks like Donovan and I played a modified version.

1. We counted Billiards when we called "Pocket Ball." So if we made the 3 and got a Billiard, we counted 5 points instead of 3.

2. We declared "Out" at any time, not by doing a Billiard into a pocket.

It looks like Ronoh's version is a bit harder... especially the getting "Out" part of it.

Ronoh, do you have to go "Out" during the Billiard phase?

I know it's a little too early to make definitive comments about these poll results, but I must admit I am a bit shocked at this stage of the game. I know that we here on the AZB are a little more learned than the average pool player as far as the different kinds of games that we play. But somehow, I still figured 9-Ball would rule this poll. It really tells you just how diverse our group is when you see the spread of voting that has gone on.

Thanks for your participation and keep on voting for you favorite!

It is kewl to see hwo everyone plays different and all types of games rather then sticking to one, makes your game more rounded playing all the games. Thanks for putting up the thread & Poll Bro.

Once you reach 38, you'll always be on the billiard phase.

Example:

Let's say that you're coming to the table with 36 points accumulated. Your choice is either a "pocket ball" or "billiard". A billiard would get you to 38 as would pocketing the 2 ball. But, the table layout won't allow for a clean 2 ball pocket without doing a billiard also (which would put you over 38 and you'd have to start back at zero), so you opt for billiard to get out.

You make the billiard, reaching 38, and now you have to go out. Only way out is with a billiard off a ball and scratch in a called pocket... so, in essence, once your reach 38, you're always on a billiard.

Hope this makes sense :)
