On ebony points into birdseye, four veneers. What is the most appealing combination of colors to you? I'm thinking--inside to out--maple, red, blue, black. What do you guys like?

The cue I have on order has Ebony into BEM with Yellow Ironwood, Redwood and Ebony.

I too have this same curiosity, I made a post requesting a way to see this before placing an order for a custom cue. I want to know that my colors will look good together before the cue is actually built.

Although I have a cue with orange veneer mixed with additional colors...anything BUT orange. Just isn't my cup of tea, although it may be for others.

What is going on with the rest of the cue down in the butt? You want to have it matching up with whatever inlays are there.

For instance, one of my cues has an ebony butt with ivory and turquoise inlays. My veneers match the butt with (inside to out on an ebony point),
maple, very light green, light blue, black.

Your colors sound good, but unless it's a plain butt and you want the veneers to stand out, I don't think you want the veneers to take away from all the inlay work or clash with a fairly ornate butt.

What I have now--outside to inside-- black/red/black/white.

Here Is What I Like

I like to keep it simple. Here is a Huebler Custom. Just looks clean to me. Next one I have made will look like this.

Burgundy, slate blue, burgundy and black. Then I would have to add some tastefull ivory and pink ivory inlays.

I would go from the birdeye inward Ebony, Maple, Ebony, Maple. With 4 veneers that means you would have the black ebony on the edge of the birdeye and the ebony point would be bordered with maple. Then the middle would alternate those same colors of white-ish wood and black. It would look alot more classic using just those 2 colors then going multicolored.

Yep, a good buddy of mine has an old Schon (spliced points) with that exact veneer line-up.
Yes, very classic.
It may be "Plain" with no inlays, but it still carries a lot of weight with me :D .

Thanks,

Jon

Murray,

Do you have any pics of that combo? Sounds nice but I can't visualize it.

Thanks,
Dave

Best I can do. I have some glued up but have not made the blank yet. The colors get darker after they are impregnated with epoxy.

Murray's made me a blank with white, gold, blue and black (SD Charger) colors thats an exceptionally nice combo. I like the traditional natural, green, orange, black, and I like the Szamboti natural, black, red, black (barbs cue) I also have Skip doing this combo for a customer and its maple, ebony, bloodwood (very red) and ebony and all I can say is when its done, I expect this to be one of the very best examples of this combination. The cue is perfect, the no seems and natural colors really make this point combo stand out for some reason.

I don't think you can do better than a classic Titalist.
