What I've learned after 2 months of tap..

What? I've played more then one 2 in apa lol you start as a 4 but anyone can goto a 2

National office says no male 2's in 8 ball. Didn't know the post was refering to 9 ball.

New male shooters cannot start as a 4 and end up a 2 without violating this rule:

27.LOWEST ATTAINABLE RULE Once you have10League matches on record or you have been assigned a skill level (therefore, an established skill level), you will not be allowed to drop more than one skill level, except for the rare instance of physical disability or other extreme circumstances which might permanently change your true ability. This is known as the lowest attainable rule.

Males can be sl2s, just not in higher level tournaments. The rule you're referencing is the national lowest attainable rule.

So I posted a story a while back how bad the apa operators are in our area and that I was going to get tap in york. Well I accomplished that. I got enough teams together to start a league here in York and we've even infiltrated a sports bar down town with 2 teams that was an apa strong hold that at one time wouldn't let other leagues in. I thought in this league I'm going to keep myself a six. I'm going to play the sandbag game like everyone else... They made me a 7 after 1 damn week of play lol and I tried for a few weeks to keep misses up and lost a few matches but last night I decided the hell with it..it's not me. so here's the few things I've learned.

!) I CAN'T SAND BAG.. I've been playing this game for 25 years with the thought process that I want to destroy the guy across from me and I like it that way. I worked hard to be a good local player and I'm not intentionally missing for some handy cap league. It's just against my nature.
2) I play in this league so I can play with my wife and son who both aren't good players but enjoy the game and I like a night out with them. They don't have my drive to be as good at the game and that's ok because they enjoy playing it. so on the table what I get out the league Is I love spotting games and the pressure of digging myself out of the hole.! beating up on lesser teams in bca and acs every week gets old and this makes it pretty equal matching up handy caps and keeps that keeps it interesting.

I know you lifer apa or tap players will think I'm an idiot and I won't be able to compete in regionals let alone if we ever make it to nationals but oh well. You know sandbagging to me is like steroids.. a lot of players did it in baseball because they had to to keep up with the players who were getting better by already doing it. If everyone would just be honest and play there speed It wouldn't be necessary.

One last funny thing.. I noticed it's not called sandbagging anymore. It's called STRATEGY! lol Look call it what you want but if your intentionally missing or doing anything to keep your handy cap down it is what it is. Own it don't make excuses for it.

It's sandbagging no matter what name they give it. I refuse to sandbag or ask anyone on my team to sandbag, thought if you have to do that then what's the since in playing in the league. You can never have fun if your sandbagging and pool night should be about shooting your best & having fun.

The national rule is #28. The one I referred to is #27. For example, if someone makes it to a sl5, they can only drop one skill level to a 4. They will never be able to be a 3 again. A 6 can drop to a 5 but will never be a 4 again.

Now, a new male shooter is "assigned" a skill level as a 4 to start. They can drop to a 3 but should never be able to drop two skill levels to a 2....according to this rule.
I would think an official protest could be filed at the national office if there is any male 2's.

My league operator told me personally that no male 2's will be allowed. Maybe a local area thing? Not to mention the fact that I have never seen a male 2 since I started APA Iin 2002. Or maybe male two's are allowed in your local bylaws?
Not trying to be an ass here, just trying to understand.

My son was a two in Apa 9 ball lol it did happen in the first 10 weeks so maybe that is the difference

About 9-years ago I played 3-16 week sessions of TAP.
TAP was sold to us as a "money league"
My team won all 48-weeks, we got over ranked, while the league rep shot left handed
the whole time, and had his girlfriend miss every shot.
Another team in my division knew from week to week how many misses & completions
they needed to keep from moving up.
The handicaps in TAP were too easy to manipulate, I wasn't in the know, so guess
where all of the "money league" money went.

The problem I saw with Tap,7-8 years ago was the rogue LO's, blatant sandbagging,
and the scorekeeping was grueling.
When it comes to the TAP league I could have a lot more to say.
I walk lightly because a few years ago my anti-TAP league posts were deleted
