Alex, I've played the 1-hole the last two years at the Derby City and miraculously won my first match both times. So, if I can win a match at DCC, then anyone can. The cost to watch the events is about the same as the cost to play one of the events. Playing allows you to watch all week without extra cost.Alex Kanapilly said:

1p is real tricky to spot when it's a 1hole player vs a 9baller. It's different when a couple of guys who play a lot of 9ball go at it, because they are both shot makers and the game can equal itself out with a ball here or there, or the break.
Now, get a strong 1p mover and the spot to an inexperienced player can go through the roof without there being too much pressure on the 1p player. Since you can play, try making a "hand span" game where you can move the CB one hand span on your turn. Maybe play your scratches don't count or something to that effect.
I played real strong 1p players back in the day when I played fairly sporty 9ball. I was told I will never "out move them", so I should go for the low %shot, and try to run out. That did work since we were playing like 9/5 or 10/6 since I played good 14.1 and could run balls. Over all the pressure was on ME. a real good mover to an inexperienced player is super hard to beat.

Holy crap. I saw him last night at a tough local tournament and I'm thinking I should just take lessons from him. He made a draw shot... full length of the table between cb and ob, the cue ball came back a full table length and broke out a cluster and he ran out. If that cue ball hadn't hit the cluster, it would have gone all the way back up table. I can't do that.
