I'm trying to figure out what type of wood the points are made of.

I'm thinking BRW.

Side note: If you noticed the discolored middle veneers, they are only on the long points. This leads me to believe it is a different veneer stock and intentional, if you where wondering or where about to comment.

The brown wood is snakewood. Awesome stuff. Ridiculously expensive. Kind of a pain to work with.

I could be wrong, but I'm still sticking with Snakewood. True, it doesn't have the typical patchwork look similar to snake scales that lend its name to the wood, but I think that's just because they're small pieces. Everything I see says Snakewood: the brown color, the irregular specks of black, the thin yet short black stripes. In contrast, the black stripes in Rosewood tend to be long and continuous.

That's my two cents worth anyway.

I don't see this as snakewood either. Could be a dark cocobolo with little grain, pau ferro, or another similar rosewood species.

I have a bunch of Snakewood and I'd guess something else. Don't know what it is, but I don't think it's snakewood.

i agree with dan and cue addict. my first thought was a darker cocobolo and not burmese. the burmese i have has a lighter and very slight violet grain. after looking more closely i am thinking more a dark honduran or yucatan rosewood. in any case, more dalbergia than snakewood.
