What lathe to buy: Porper Model B or Grizzly

I am looking into buying a lathe to do repairs and maybe start some minor building of cues.
I am looking at the Porper Model B or the Grizzly G0705G

Let me know your opinions and what is needed additional for each lathe.

Thanks

I have a model B and I also have a Deluxe Cue Smith. They are both good machines and I use both of them all the time. The model B is a bit beefier and has its limitations as well as the Deluxe. IMHO, a decked out Deluxe is a better bang for the buck.

Lathe

Well the model b is not a fullsize lathe and for the money between the two go for 40 inch between centers and not the 36 inch and don't look back

What good is it to help someone who just asks a question and disappears ?

Buy the Porper lathe first, then buy a metal lathe. You'll want them both, if you ever get serious about building.

I'm not a fan of the deluxe do to the size. Nice lathe but looking for full size.

You initially stated that you wanted to do repairs and minor building in which case the Porper would be best to start out with. However, we would recommend the Hightower over the Porper but you already said that you didn't like the Hightower due to the size and that you're looking for a "full size" in which case you already answered your own question.

When you list messages, it's always nice if the correct info is provided. You stated the "Grizzly G0705G" when no such lathe is available. You obviously meant the Grizzly G0750G which is available. Someone mentioned the G4003 and your choice of the G0750G, both of which are ok for doing repairs but not for building cues. The reason(s) have been discussed on numerous occasions.

If you want a lathe to use for building then your best choice is G9036.

Personally, I think you should start out with a Hightower but then again, what do I know.

I have two porper model b's, a Hightower inlay machine and two of his cue building lathes as well as a taig based repair lathe I built myself just for shows. Both lathes have benefits as well as limitations. Hightower is lighter, smaller and more portable. Porper is beefier and can handle bigger tasks in the building aspects. Plus, Hightower has awesome customer service. Porper is hard to get info from. Ryan is really good at questions about porper but he works for muellers not porper lol. Hope this helps
