Well, mostly I look at my masse cue as the one cue I own that can take the beating...If I were to try and masse with my playing cue all the time I would break something on it...I used to bust the joints out of my playing cues. I think that was always the first part to break. It would all fly apart in the end...
My going to Dieckman was to find a more durable cue...I told him I need something I can swing into a brick wall at 35mph...That is really what I am doing. If you take all the balls out of the shot, I am taking a cue and slamming it down into a slate floor...If I did that with a $100 cue...I would give it three swings on average before something breaks. My Dieckman is a few years old (18 yrs) and any other cue I ever owned would of broke to pieces by now. My old Fury cue put up with alot, it pains me to brag about a Fury, some of you know this is a fact.
Anyway my Fury cue held up to my beating...I have gained about thirty pounds of upper body muscle since then I suspect I could snap one pretty quick now. I gave my old one to a friend so I wouldn't be tempted...
My Dieckman gets pretty abused. I pretend it's Dennis that I am slamming down into the table. This help to focus my chi. I get at least 1 mph extra because of that alone. LOL
Honestly the reason you spend the cash to get a Dieckman is it is going to last you. I cant tell you how nice it is. I have not had to get a new cue since I got my Dieckman. He doesn't pay to talk nice about his cues either.
I will tell you a secret he made the best cue I ever hit a ball with, I own it now, I'll play with it until I die. Unless he sells it out from under me...I couldn't take it without letting him still sell it, this was my idea not his...it is to nice for it to be a gift to me.
Anyway back to the secret:
Dieckman also built the worst cue I have ever hit a ball with. He plays with it. I know why I torture him at pool now...if you ever see him tell him you want to hit some with his playing cue then drop it on the floor and tell him it's junk thats not fit to be a tooth pick...
I tried to steal it from him cause I wanted to burn it. I think its existence is in itself a abomination to cue sports everywhere... I know your reading this. FUB
Last paragraph was an inside joke to Dennis. He is now laughing so hard he spit on his monitor. again FUB.
So, really masse cues are not have to buy items. Some do however make it easier to do masse, and in the long run are cheaper.
