What makes a good pool player have an out of stroke day?

Whatever the factors are, it usually comes down to either becoming lazy or forgetful with your fundamentals or not thinking through your runs properly. I know that when I'm playing poor snooker, I'm not looking for the extra reds on the edge of the pack that I can make, I'm forgetting about basic easy safety shots or not seeing the long red that if I miss I leave nothing.

In 14.1 I start forgetting about key balls and insurance balls. 9 ball, I tend to over complicate things. All of these things can cause my game to break down even if my shotmaking is sharp. You can only pot them from the lampshades for so long.

Hello Minorwood, talking about me is OK!

A bad hangover, an outbreak of herpes, sappy love songs playing on the juke box. There are many things that can take a pro out of his game. Eating spoiled crab meat, watching the Saints lose in the last second, the list goes on.

But please do not talk about the Saints! How are you doing today? Good input though. Thanks.
Many Regards,

Why a player has a good or bad day at the table!

He plays real good most of the time, but now he is having and out of stroke day, in a big match! What causes this?

Well alot of things can come into play as why a person is not playing as well as they usually do on a given day and being out of stroke.

1. Nerves...a person that is not used to the situation may not play them usual selves, one more accustom to the surrondings and their situation will play far better than one that is not.

2. Whom their playing.... some players just can't play that well against a certian person, it has to do with their personality ( yours or theirs)

3. The atmosphere of the pool room....by this I mean many things, the people watching you play, are people being courteous to you and others or just acting like they are in the world by themselves, the atmosphere of the pool room as a whole goes along way as to how good or great you play!

4.What's been going on in your day to day life.........if you have had strenuous things happening in your life as of late, that will certainly be a burden on the mind and become a distraction in ones performance at the table.

5. Table size....whats your preference? 7, 8 or 9 footer, everyone plays their best on one or the other!

6. Cloth on the table.....some players like fast cloth and others like slow, and some inbetween, one thing is for a Fact, You will have a preference and will play your best at that table!

7. Humidity in a pool room..........are you playing in a dry pool room or a wet one, some players have very sweaty hands and are in need of powder or dry towels, this condition has been the down fall of many players that other wise would have become great players........if you are in with the owners or perhaphs own the pool room you can turn your air conditioner down ( Make it Cold) and this will dry the tables out and make them more accepting of the balls to the hole, and also you won't perspire as much.

8. Nicks in your cue and condition of your tip......if you have unwanted nicks in your shaft or perhaps your tip isn't just to your liking you will not play as good as you could otherwise!....so fix it before you play!

9. NEVER PLAY POOL AFTER YOU HAVE JUST EATEN!.....if you play pool after you have just eaten a meal you will NOT ever play pool to your potential!!!!because you will be slugish and slow....and when you do eat, eat fish!, it's a brain food!........believe me I've been playing pool over 40 yrs. and you will play your best pool when you are HUNGRY, thats right, hungry!..you will be more active and alert at this time!......you can eat and wait 2 to 4 hrs. then play and you'll be OK,.. .during play just a very light snack here and there and you'll do fine!

These are just a few things that will or will not play a part in ones performance at the table and play a part of being instroke or not!!!!

Need to hit the re-boot...

Sometimes, not always, this work for me. Throw out 5-6 balls and shoot them in left handed. When you back to your normal right handed stroke it feels great and sometimes that is all it takes, to have your stroke feel great!

Bio-rhythms. Some days are good, some days are not. Same for any profession.

i agree, it happens at all skill levels. same in Boxing, boxers fear coming out "flat" on fight night, its the worst possible thing-and there is no cure.

Not being prepared for class

The feeling that causes me to go flat is not being in practice or just simply not being prepared .Trying my best right now to re dedicate myself to some serious practice and play .Sure , I agree that anyone can have a "bad day " but if you are serious about practice and being prepared it seems to me that those moments seem to come alot less . Also you can be the most prepared and be having a good day and get beat like a drum by someone that may be just a little more HUNGRY .HUNGRY=FOCUS

My God -- IF someone could come up with the answer for this they'd be a millionaire.
