what pros play with maple regular deflection shafts ?

I know this sounds crazy, but 20+ years ago there was thread where the question was what pros were playing with a Szamboti. If I remember correctly, there were several.

I would be willing to bet that number has gone to 0.

Time changes.

Rodney Morris and Kim Davenport. :)

The more accurate statement would be "there are plenty of players that try to put the CB where it doesn't need to go".

It won't go to the same place with a different amount of english.
I especially mean dudes that use bottom right or bottom left on every shot regardless of what they really need for english.

Efren, Strickland, Bustamante... the OGs of pool, I'd say.
It's a lot more difficult to find younger professionals using non-LD shafts. Maybe Maung-Maung:

Hm, also Pagulayan, I guess?
John Morra plays Falcon cues, they aren't LD, right?
Morra is with Lucasi now. He is playing with a CF LD shaft.

Lol why did you have to call me out like that? ;)

I try like hell not to have to but I get out of shape more than I'd like to admit. The bright side is it has helped me practice my shotmaking skills! :ROFLMAO:

you may need a certain amount of english to get the cue ball to an exact spot on the table. pros can do it much more reliably than lesser players of course.

but more times than not, lesser players play area position. meaning, playing for an area that gives them a good next shot but leaves more room for error so as not to get hooked or be in an unmanageable situation.
It's all a matter of what kind of player you want to be. What you're espousing above is the typical attitude of league players and life long B/C players.
that certainly is better for most.
Better? It's only better if you're satisfied with being mediocore. So I suppose you're right, most people are unwilling to put in the effort to rise above mediocrity.
and using less english and possibly using speed to get the cue ball into your desired area might be more easily consistent.
One thing using a bit more english does (in the majority of situations) is it allows you to hit the CB softer. There's one thing that's consistent across the entire spectrum of players, beginners to pros. The harder you hit the ball, the more breakdowns occur.
and aiming and playing along the center line of the cue ball is more accurate in the hit and and knowing just where the cue ball will be headed.
English has no affect on CB direction off the OB, only vertical height and speed of stroke.

** I'm not really disagreeing with most of what you say here. Just pointing out that following that prescribed path may not result in much advancement.

I think the Ko brothers play with regular maple shafts, but I think the cues are like collector level cues or priceless...you can only buy them with faberge' eggs, gold bars, and infants I believe.

they use Zen cues and yes they are very hi-dollar. cheapest one is around 4grand iirc.
