What single thing (theory, suggestion, equipment) has turned your game around?

4) The ability to not let a recent bad shot affect the rest of the session.

3) Accepting defeat as long as I played well but still lost.

2) When not playing well, the ability to self diagnose and correct. The biggest culprit is typically that I'm not dwelling that extra second on whitey before making the last CB to OB eye movement.

but above all.......

1) Hit whitey as soft as possible to achieve the necessary position.

Playing in tournaments against professional pool players when I had no chance of ever winning a match.

Joey.... always the modest one. My one thing? Lucky toe jam that I keep in my case.

Good thread. I can relate to almost all of these posts.

Watch good pool and absorb it. When you watch A level players who don't miss, not only can you pick up on good safeties and patterns, but it also seems to reset the shot making expectations that I have of myself. The TAR Alex P vs. Shane Van Boening matches are incredible for this.

Also, take the shots that you absolutely hate, and practice them. Force yourself to shoot 15 of them to the right and to the left before you begin to play, then again after your session is over. You'll be surprised how quickly you turn that weakness into a strength.

longer cue...

i started to put a better stroke on the ball with a 60" cue. before when i would hit the ball a little hard i had a tendency to pull the cue out of my fingers. being 6'7" it was a good change for me...J$

#1 for sure!!! I find the biggest thing that destroys my rhythm is getting excited at the prospect of a run out and hitting too hard, which leads to rattling out balls --> getting frustrated --> tense muscles & losing confidence and concentration --> everything else bad in the book. I couldn't agree more that this is the most important thing!

I may not practice them, but I never pass them up. Since it's just my friends and I effing around, I can't pass up a bank shot, kick shot, combo, or a crazy cut shot, even when there's an easy shot right over there - just to see what happens... just to see if I can do it. Just 'cause it's fun. 'cause I'm crazy.

Made a crazy kick shot and a crazy bank shot yesterday that will carry me for a long time. :D

center ball

Switching to a Pred-314 and learning about throw gave my game a big boost years ago.

Then my game turned around in the wrong direction recently.Methinks bad mechanics and to much "spin-it-to-win-it" mentality lead my game right into a brick wall.

Now I am thinking (hoping) that getting back to the center of the CB will turn my game around for the better.
