What Size Table?

Is it better to get a biggest table possible to fit in your home, or get the same size table you would play most often on and most tournaments I encounter are on?

I guess what I am saying is everything around here is done on 7ft tables, however I would like my game to continue to improve, am I better off getting a 7ft because thats the size table 99% of my shooting in any competition occurs on or go with the larger, harder table to play on??? But as you know bigger tables tend to present more open shots where smaller tables an accurate break out shot is needed often.

Thanks for the input.

If you compete mostly on 7 footers, then it would be beneficial to have one in your home.

However practicing on a 9 foot table will improve your game and it is easier to adjust to a smaller table than to a bigger one.

I would get the biggest one you can get, provided you are still willing to put in some 7 foot table practice at the pool room.

But if you only ever are interested in competing on 7 footers, get the 7 footer.

In general a 7ft table may have a slight edge in encouraging better patterns, tighter cue ball control, and cluster management. A 9ft table has the a definite edge in helping to improve your shotmaking, and it forces you to have to bear down and focus. An 8ft table is middle ground.

There are benefits both ways but for several reasons I would say to get a 9ft table (or the largest you can fit) no matter what size table you normally play on. First, it is fairly easy to adjust from a big to a small table (but not as easy the other way around). You might not primarily play on the small tables forever (a new pool hall with big tables may open, etc). You can still work on all aspects of your game with the big table, but with the small one there is nothing you can do to work on the longer shots, etc. Your will have a lot more confidence on the small tables after playing on a big one for a while.

The larger table will do more for your game overall.
