Friend is want to step up from his Player Cue, that has served him well for a year. I told him to get a Keith Josey, or Bob Frey SP, but he wants more options.

What would you spring for UNDER 400 Bucks.:wink:

There was just a thread on Josey/Frey recently. Search it.

Josey all the way.

Rick Howard - of the cues I have played with (no offense to any of my cue maker friends whose cues I may not have played with)

My opinion comes from shooting with probably every production cue, Andy Gilbert, Chad Carter, Samsara, Jim Buss, JMW, Olivier, Rowell, and a few others I can't think of right now.

I am in the same perdicament. I am between a Keith Josey, Frey, or a Jensen. You can get all 3 under $400.

I don't know about under $400 but for a $100 more I would go for a Pat Diveney.
I'm sure you can find a used one in the "for sale" section in good condition and good price.

What kind of joint does he want? What kind of taper does he like? Does he want something readily available, or is he willing to order it and wait 12 to 16 weeks?
He needs to choose his equipment, then pick a maker based on what they're known for.

Cant go wrong. Super low price custom made cue. Hits extremely good, tapers can be adjusted, Laminated shaft and butt, Radial pin, Kamui tip, free jont protectors. The inside english has zero deflection, its unbeleivable (for me). There you go.

I do not think you could go wrong with any of the 3. Jensen still makes a few sneakys especially if you are in Lousiana.

...under 400$ -> Mezz

For slightly above $400 you can get in the Mezz players. They are a quality cue and one of the best balanced I have ever picked up. I would compare their playability to that of a Schon.

I love my Diveney! The hit is SUPER solid. Pat is a great guy to work with and if you can afford a lakewood shaft, get one.

Not trying to hijack the thread but I have a New Bob Frey Purpleheart Sneaky Pete for sale. The cue comes with 2 shafts and has Morri/Sniper tips. Cue is 19 oz and has been test hit only. This is super nice cue. This is a true sneaky pete (no joint collars). Bob Frey no longer makes sneaky petes without joint collars. I am asking 600.00 Anthony

I am a Paul Mottey fan but the best Sneaky Pete I have ever had was a Tim Scruggs. At the time I paid $250.00 for it (about 20 years ago). I don't know what they sell for now but it had beautifil performance and was a thing of joy to have in your hand.
