What Sneaky Pete would you buy?

I love my Bob Frey. Hits great. Its under $400 with one shaft. If he wants another shafter he'll shell out about another $150 or so.
 
I am no expert but so I will ask, then I will state my opinion. What came first the "Sneaky Pete" or the "Hustler" (name that is). I know one is the other and the other is the same. But IMO a Sneaky Pete is a Hustler cue that looks like a house cue but plays like a custom; right? So why have I been seeing more and more Sneaky's with collars and wraps. IMO this is no longer a SP it is a very "basic cue". So it is my belief that someone decided to put collars on a SP in hopes of making it more solid. Then wraps and different points followed. Don't get me wrong, I owned a Josey SP for years that looked nothing like a "house cue". It was a beautiful Ebony with the signature Josey points and black collars.

So when did this happen, when did a Hustler cue become a SP and when did a SP become a very basic looking cue?

And for the record i have owned many SP's with and without collars (no wraps ever). I only used them because I used to go to regular bars quite a bit and play but never wanted to be that guy with his own cue. So I liked having a SP to look less obvious but with no intention of hustling. I just wanting to know I was shooting with a straight balanced good hitting cue. Only issues I ever had were trying to convince people that they "cannot share my house cue" and keeping an eye on so it doesn't walk of because people think it's a house cue. :thumbup:

Murrell or stacey, both are great players cues. My murrell is top 3 for hit in my line up/ purpleheart SP.

Best hitting cue I own according to the guys I shoot with.

I played with a Diveney, not so sneaky, sneaky.:thumbup:

I own 2 Leon Sly's one SP and one custom you just can't beat the price or how nice they hit.
 
SP options

Well if he is in AZ, Roger Long in Glendale makes a SP with a G10 option for around $100. Personally I don't have a lot of experience with SPs, but the one I played around with was very playable. Also, Bryan Fisher has some SPs one his website that are under $200 and all the reviews I've read (haven't played one yet myself) are very positive concerning Fisher cues. Finally, I am pretty sure I saw a Pechauer SP in the for sale forum under $300 I think, and all the Pechauers I've ver played were great playing cues.

Absolutely, TS is the second best sleeper I've played with and the first was almost a one of a kind.
 
Why pay stupid money for something that looks like a bar cue, when you can get a bar cue for about $10/$20? :D

Players decal special is what is being replaced, as it has warped. I am going to print of this thread, give it to the guy today when I see him, and tell him go down to the libruary, and look at the suggested Cues, on their computer.

Good points, we all have different preferences. Are we suggesting true SP's or the fancy SP's (Hustler) with buttcapp and joint collars ? If possible your buddy should play with as many models as he can before choosing.

A good SP or Hustler is a lot of bang for your buck. Personally, I'm partial to Scruggs and Diveney but under $400 w/collars & buttcap might be tough. Good luck and have fun shopping.:thumbup:

I'm no expert but before I would spend $400 dollars on a sneaky pete I would want to play with it first. Another option is to find somebody with an aftermarket shaft that will work on his Players cue and see if they will let you try it for a few minutes. Yet another option is to have a different taper or tip put on his players shaft.

Unless $400 dollars is no big deal, then go for it.
