True that.
How many times have we heard, " he/she played GOOD "?
I'd be shocked it 20% of them knew what an adverb is.

Yeah, I agree. They don't understand it's "he/she played gooderer". :D

Gerda speaks 4 languages

One language, and semi pro means that I play for half my income, hence the word, semi.

Would a semi pro bicycle rider be someone who competes professionally in unicycle races?

Please don't lump me in. I just came here to learn.

You can learn and have fun!
Lora, pardon me if this sounds like a line but you look familiar or remind me of someone. Have you done any acting or modeling???

My apologies to anyone was offended, and as for the ridicule for me saying I'm a semi pro poker player, allow me to break it down for you all:

A professional is someone that does something for a financial living, ie; professional banker, professional pool player, professional poker player, etc.

Semi means half.

I work with an insurance company making fairly decent money, which makes up half of my income. I play poker for the other half of my income. Therefore, I am a semi professional poker player.

Hope that clears everything up, and once again I am sorry that nobody caught what this post was really all about. ESPN's editing bites the big one, on the table, with commentary, and during the player interviews.

Shoot well!

Did ESPN pre-empt the last two matches everywhere or just here?I had settled down to watch some 9-ball and after match one they cut to the semi-pro baseball all star game. I want to know what the F was with that!

They did that while the LPGA playoff was in progress.

Semi means half.

Actually, doesn't semi mean "part", and demi means "half"? So a semi pro bicycle rider could compete professionally in unicycle or handlebar races (they carry the handlebars and run really really fast). Or even in races where they are lacking only the foot pedals. But a demi pro would be limited to the unicycle races.

You're right, though, ESPN is suspicious. I immediately thought that they thought of something "cute" for her to say and made her read it.

I haven't seen a WPBA ESPN tourney in a long time, but the last time I did I thought they sesnsationalized absolutely everything- they must have held up *applause* cards to make the audience clap after every single shot. It got so irritating I turned the sound off.

I am a semi professional poker player.

One definition of semi is half, in the sense of a semicircle.

In the sense of a semi-professional (note the hyphen) it means not fully.

Learn how to define things properly and learn to use the dang hyphen.

I AM NOT GOING TO KEEP CORRECTING YOU!!!

Well thanks to me you finally know who you are and you don't have to keep trying to make exactly half your income from playing poker in order to be semi-professional.

I could just picture you, "let's see I have made $8,270 from insurance this year and $8,470 from poker, I had better go out and lose $200 or I won't be semi-professional poker player and I am currently less than a semi-professional insurance salesman".

You can relax a little and enjoy yourself now that you are clear on the definition of semi.

HAPPY?

You are using wise ass as one word so it should by hyphenated i.e. wise-ass.

"Please enlighten me on what to call myself" is not a proper sentence and I do not know what you mean by it since I never suggested you should call yourself anything. However, I am sure there are some posters who could think of things to call you if that is what you are looking for.

You are not half the man your mother was.

Gerda speaks 5 languages, actually. She's a very sweet person... I think the thread was pointless, and only created to cause an upset(or show foolishness). I guess I may take that post into consideration once they speak 5 languages, and all of them perfectly. Oh wait!!! We are all imperfect people. Darn. There goes that.

ROTFLMFAO!!!!!! :p

Now, I'm playin' Dea's part (AKA better late than never ;) ) but I'm gonna throw my three cents in anyway.... I am American born and ed-u-ma-cated in the American PUBLIC school system and I flub up on my English (the only lauange I speak unless you count those various French words I know) sometimes....perfectly sober too. It is to my understanding that English is one of the most difficult lauanges to learn, especailly as a second lauange.
