Thanks for replying. I love the triangle tips. No more fancy layered $20 tips for me.
Shoot yea I just got on the triangle bandwagon. So far so good. I honestly believe it has something to do with vegetable/naturally tanned leather vs chromium tanned. Just try to burnish a triangle or lepro. They are chromium tanned, which virtually means no glazing. Kamui burnishes up well, so no wonder why they get shiny burn spots, same with lepro. See this interesting article which, along with a good portion of the Az community, convinced me to switch https://www.carryology.com/insights/chrome-vs-vegetable-tanned-leather/
Actually, the Triangle receives a combination of chromium, and veg tan, and the Le Pro is veg tanned. Hope that helps.
All the best,

Do the ultra skins mushroom? Do u have to reshape them often? In the last few years, I've played with several types of tips:
Triangle
Le Pro
Kamui Black SS
Kamui Black Medium
G-2 Soft
Ultra-skin Medium
Ultra-skin Soft
Of those, I now use Ultra-skin soft on every cue that I play with and I'll change the others to that when they are due for a tip change.
You can't beat the price of Ultra-skins and they play as well as some of the high-dollar tips.
I get so much action on these tips, that there isn't a Sunday that goes by that somebody doesn't come up and ask me what kind of tip I use.

I have never had to reshape them on the sides on any cue I have put them on and they have never "mushroomed" on the top either. I use my tip tool to kind of roughen up the surface, but have never had to do anything else.
I break with them on my playing cue and they have never got beat out of shape.
I seldom ever miscue with them, too.
I am speaking only for the soft tips. I didn't really like the hit of the mediums, so I never spent enough time with them to give a fair assessment.
First off... Ultra Skins are IMO a good tip, not only for the price, they are good regardless of price....
It's the price that gives them an edge for several of my customers.
I am not sure what HawaiianEye is doing as far as his burnishing process but in my experience every soft tip will mushroom at least once of twice before it settles in.
Installing and shooting with a soft tip, let alone breaking with it without expecting it to mushroom (at least initially) is some kind of voodoo magic.
Another vote for the good old fashioned Triangle. Having tried them all, I don't think there is a better one. Very coarse, you can pick the mediums from the medium-hards, by the look of the tops, depending on your preference.
Of course, some will chime in saying wrong. You must spend more!!!

Hey Guys,
Just wanted to ask what tips you have on your regular maple shafts???

Yea they are hard and also glaze over. Mine lasted about a month before it went in the garbage. Triangles for me now.It is a cue that I use to break with and trust me the Kamui Black Mediums, two, that I bought are or play harder than a triangle.
When I first tried Kamui tips I ordered two Mediums. Installed one on my OB Classic shaft and it sounded like and played like the WB tips on my Palmer #17. So I then tried a Soft and it was to hard. A Super Soft plays the same on that shaft as a Kamikaze black medium.
I don't know if they are bogus tips are not. But they look and shape like Kamui tips. But they are hard as rocks.
I keep reading about Kamui tips glazing on this forum. But I have never had a Kamui tip glaze. And I see other players with Kamui tips and I have never heard them complain about glazing ether.
I started using Magic Chalk before I started using the Kamui tips. I love the way Tiger Everest tips play for about two months and then they start glazing and I cut them off. I am tempted to install an Everest on one of my shafts just to see if it glazes with the Magic Chalk.
