what to do here?? (replace tip)

OK, I don't use any high dollar cues. I just play for fun (and am a poor college student so I can't afford any expensive cue). Anyway, when I bought my cue 6 years ago, someone had put a screw in tip onto the shaft, and there was no brass insert for the screw. IE, they drilled a hole straight into the wood and screwed the tip into the wood. Finally, the tip ripped right out. How do I go about replacing a tip? Do I go buy a 15 dollar tip replacement kit? I don't think that will work since there is now an empty hole in the shaft. I guess I could always go buy a new cheapo shaft, but I'm quite fond of the one I have now. Any suggestions appreciated.

Kevin ,
You could go to any good cue repair guy and have a new ferrule and tip put on. even if they have to drill out your existing hole from the screw on tip and put a new tenon in it's place to add a new quality ferrule. This process for me only takes a little bit of time and about 40 bucks. It is better to replace the ferrule so that you may enjoy many more games with a cue you feel good with to shoot your best game.
Thanks,

Thank you very very much for that info. Now I've got to find a repair guy (you know of anywhere that there is a list?) I have been losing game after game since I lost it. No stick that I have used since really compares to the comfort I get from mine, so, again, thank you very much for the info. Will start making calls Monday.

Tell us where you're at. There might be someone here that's close or we might know someone close.

Russelville, AR

I found a guy here that makes cues and has prices for tip/ferrule replacements, so I sent him an email. If he gets back to me I'll be visiting his shop wednesday or thursday.

Kevin,
You could send it ups to me and the repair itself would only take me a day or so. Let me know!

How much would it cost me that way ;-) With this local guy, I think it would be about 18 bucks. Shipping by UPS alone there and back would probably cost me more. But, if this guy doesn't get back to me, then I probably will be sending it your way.

Tip replacement

Check for any tournaments close to you. Lots of times there will be a cue repair station set up at the tournament.

Hmm, I hope your cue wasn't a good one. That "someone" who drilled a hole in your shaft pretty much destroyed the shaft  . I dunno, maybe some cue repairperson can come up with a miracle and save the cue.

You forget, Predator has a hole 5" deep in the end of their 314's. Actually though, a hole in the end of a shaft is no problem to repair for a cue mechanic.

Like I said, no high dollar cues here. I could just go buy a shaft for a cheap stick and maybe be just as satisfied ;-)...but anyway, I'm taking it to a local cue rebuilder, getting a moori tip and new ferrule put on, and he'll see what he can do about the big ass hole in the shaft :-)
