What to do in this situation

Every time I am at Magoos for the weekly tournament there is a a certain guy there playing as well. Every time I have been playing on the table next to him, he does not pay attention to anything around him and he will bump into you, or at least he does me and I have seen him do this to quite a few others as well. I know he must really be in the "Zone" or something but man, show some courtesy please for your fellow players.

Now the 1st time he bumped me, I was about to shoot the 9 ball in for 1st place, he bumped me and I missed the whole damn ball.....I was so mad I just turned away from him and accepted 2nd place and didnt say a word to anyone. The guy I was playing for 1st seen it and was pretty mad about it also because this guy had bumped him too in one of his earlier matches.

He has bumped me on 2 other occasions and I just walked away from the table and gathered my composure, went back to the table and choked...it really threw me off...

This sunday, I was in the tournament again, and lo and behold I draw a match on a table next to him...I told myself I was gonna give a little nudge if he bumped into me.....well, I was down shooting and out of the corner of my eye seen him chalking and walking up to shoot....he bumped into me and i nudged him back and he said "hey asshole, watch it" well...I shot and went on about my buisiness. he came up to me after the match and asked why I bumped him....I said that I was down on the shot, and that he walked up and bumped me....he didnt see it that way but the guy he was playing apologized for the man bumping me..

On each occasion before the bumping incident, I have asked him to watch the other players and have respect for them when they are shooting and he just looks at you like he has no clue what your talking about

What do you think I should do the next time this happens, and what would you do? Im not gonna hit him or anything, but I dont feel a friendly "BUMP" when he walks up and bumps you first is out of line...but I know where that may eventually lead..so I am asking for your opinions. This kind of crap just totally ruins my game and frankly pisses me off..

Thanks
Shawn

Wooooow.. what an asshole! I think I would see what kind of a jerk he really is if it happens again, and then take it up a notch. Otherwise, you should have a few people who have witnessed it gang up on him and verbally tell him he's out of line... then he will have it on his mind all the time.

return bump is wrong on many levels

The return bump is technically assault, even assault with a deadly weapon if you use a cue stick and the local DA is feeling froggy.

On the other hand, if you have noticed that he keeps on with his behavior you can be the one that has the issues with accidentally bumping him at every opportunity or getting too close behind him and him bumping into you when he gets down on a shot on the side of his table you are playing on. A generous dose of his own medicine will probably give him the message.

I have done this so thoroughly in the past that the usual offender refused to ever play on a table next to me again! Something about the butt of a house cue in the ribs one time too many. I always apologized profusely before doing something again a few minutes later. After being on the receiving end he cleaned up his act.

Shawn, if you're bumped during the act of shooting, you don't have to just accept whatever happens to the balls. Rule 1.9 of the General Rules covers this:

1.9 Outside Interference
When outside interference occurs during a shot that has an effect on the outcome of that shot, the referee will restore the balls to the positions they had before the shot, and the shot will be replayed. If the interference had no effect on the shot, the referee will restore the disturbed balls and play will continue. If the balls cannot be restored to their original positions, the situation is handled like a stalemate.

Although this refers to a refereed match, I think it is reasonable to expect it to be observed in non-refereed matches as well, particularly in a tournament match like you mentioned.

Just tell Jim McDermott about it. Just like in a bar or restaurant, it is better to tell the owner or manager and let them handle it. Unless you are looking to punch the guy.

No, not looking to do that..i just wanted to see how other people would handle this....i have asked him a few times to at least be aware of other people..but he is just oblivious when he is playing.....

i'd ask him to give me space once, prolly not twice...

i've not been to McGoo's, so i don't know the table layout but i can't recall playing in or sweating a tourney final in a pool hall where railbirds or players on other tables could impact play. Bars yes, but not in pool halls. In this area mgmt or tourney directors are vigilante with regards to behavior which is disruptive to end game play.

This guy seems like he would be ripe to have "the hit to the back of the knee trick" used on him preferably when he is down on an important shot:D

If he is no longer in the tournament and does not get the picture of being polit to those who are. Just ask your tournament director to say something. or ask your opponent if you can start your match when he is through.

don't elevate the bumping

Ya gotta talk to somebody in authority, talk to him, talk to your opponent,
T.D., or to whomever might help out. Bumping back is a no-no. Talk nice. Keep
your blood pressure down. The object is to win the match not start a
brawl cause if you do you become a bad guy too.

First off you have handled this much better than 99% of anybody. I've had ppl bump into me, but never in anything other than practice so that is easy to blow off as it really is no big deal. Him bumping into you on the 9ball causing you to lose 1st place also cost you money....I would not have been able to blow that off.

The best solution I could think of without letting things get ugly is to have a few ppl who he has also done this to go with you to the owner. Let him know that if he doesn't do something about it then there is potential for the customers to deal with it for him.

Maybe he thinks you are cute and wants to get your attention. Next time he looks at you, wink and blow him a kiss.

This guy wasnt in the tournament...he was playing one a table next to one of the tournament tables....

Yea I understand...and no, i wouldnt start a fight....man, its just hard to not bump him back even after talking to him nicely and him doing this repeatedly..but I I understand what everyone is saying and I appreciate your input

Seriously? I may just rip off my shirt, lick my index fingers...and start rubbing my nipples while licking my lips at him......maybe that will rattle him and make him avoid me at all cost:wink:

This is a very good idea actually...I will wear daisy dukes and a white wifebeater next time.....oh...and flip flops

Exactly my point. Blow a kiss and I bet he won't come within ten feet of you. Plus, you'll rattle his game....

Or...I can make some velcro pants, and when he starts walking towards me...I rip them and my shirt off and play my boom box and start dancing for him like partyboy does on jacka$$

I have a feeling I may even get some dollar bills stuffed in my thong when I do this....so its turning into a win win situation for me....:clapping:

pretty simple tell the owner it is dumb to have a guy next to a tourney table in the first place.

They wont stop someone from playing on a table next to tournament tables unless its a major tournament....its just common courtesy to watch out for other players...this guy when he plays is just oblivious to others when he is in the "Groove"
