what to do with old lamenet

R3DS!X

professional failure
I was doing a restore on an 87 valley and am pretty much done. I'm now nit picking for something else to do. The lamenet on the rails were kinda dull so I wanted to make them shiny again. I tried car polishes and waxes but they didn't give the desired results. I tried plastic polishes and they didn't work much better. Last thing I tried was a product called rejuvinate which laid down a glaze and after a few coats I could get it to a state that I could bring to a polish. So that tides me over until the small parts of the pattern that had worn off from use started bothering me...
So could I just use some contact paper over the old stuff and apply a clear coat over it? Or do I really have to buy new lamenet?

Sure, why not, it's not like it's going to hurt the re-sale value any:D

i can't tell whether you're implying that my idea is sh!tty, that my table is worthless or both.

Clean and very lightly rough up the surface with steel wool or a very fine sand paper. Then just clear coat it. The better the clear coat the better the result. For best results, if you know someone who has a body shop... automotive clear coat.
