What type of rubber is on my table?

I really don't know that there is a problem. I've never played on the table. I bought it from a guy in Colorado and hired out a local guy there to dismantle it and crate it up for shipping.
Now I'm trying to figure out if the rubber is correct (k55). The guy I bought it from said that he purchased it in 1968 and that it had been restored by Brunswick but didn't have any more details than that.
Since it's all apart I decided to refinish the wood work and hope to have it ready for play soon.

I recently purchased an old Brunswick Anniversary table and am trying to figure out of it has k66 or k55 rubber currently installed.

This is starting to get out of hand.
Take an "accurate" measurement as shown above.
This measurement (the base of the cushion) will tell you the cushion profile.

Anything else is just confusing the issue.

MrWrestling - go to post #22

2rail.jpg

In this pic the gap between the bottom of cushion and bottom of subrail angle is more noticeable suggesting the wrong cushions on the rail. Hard to tell the measurement but I'd guess either a K66 or a Superspeed was used when the rail called for a K55. Cushion does not look like a Superspeed tho.

Added - nose height appears a bit low ( 1 3/8) and don't know what's up with the gap between the bottom of the rail and the slate (if that's the slate) suggesting nose height would be even lower when rail is bolted down.

Comments?

Gap on bottom of rail is dado for cloth relief.

I know but it seems a tad much. I should get my specs from the truck for a better look but I'm lazy tonite. What's your take on the cushion?

Rick,
The measurement you're looking for is 1 3/16. That measurement is consistent on both sides of the rail, I removed the cushion facing on the other side and measured there also. Short of removing the rubber that's the most accurate measurement that I can get.

.

At 1 3/16 it's not a K55. No telling exactly what they used when it was "restored". Regardless, the cushion nose looks a tad low and at this stage of the game you may be better served to replace the cushions with fresh K55 and sleep better at night.

I'm with you Rick. It's good news that the sub rail wasn't modified. I'll get some k55 ordered up and move on.

Thanks again for help
Todd

I'm lost on this one Rick. Without being there, I can't really tell what's going on with these rails. I think the point of the cushions are low as well. I'm not sure if it's because of the imitation Brunswick rail rubber, or because of the sub-rail.

Glen

Oh no.... It's not good when RKC is lost. I guess these things come up when you're dealing with a table that's 60 years old.
I'll remove the rubber from the subrail and post a picture so you guys can check that out.
And just to double check, either Brunswick SuperSpeed or Artemus Intercontinental 66 should fit this subrail if it has not been modified, correct?

I've been lost for years...LOL:D But I'm just "lost" on your rails...LOL. It's not the 60 years old that bothers me, it's what has been done in the "past" on your table that confuses me. When people say "Brunswick" restored my rails....does that mean the "Brunswick" dealer? Or does that mean "Brunswick" the factory? Is this another example of "certified" restored?...LOL. If I seen your rails in person, in less than 60 seconds I'd know what happened, and what was done, and what to do to correct it. I have a lot more questions that can't be answered. Like, what is the dimensions of the playing surface? 50 x 100, or 50 1/4" x 100 1/4"? I don't the answers yet, because the table is not together yet...LOL....anyway, to answer your question, yes...either rubber will fit, just make sure it's the Artimus Intercontinental rubber profile, and not the Artimus "Pool" rubber.

Glen

He ain't lost - he has the new GPS stapler.

Anyway - just a thought that if you don't know how the tables plays do you really want to invest big bucks in Artemis cushions when a decent set of K55 should do just fine? Kinda like buying fancy rims for a used car that may have problems. Something to think about.

You mean...you DON"T put 22" rims on a Monty Carlo...that don't have a motor in it??????...Damn, I guess I AM lost...:D

You're right Rick, I think I'd stick with Super Speed or equivelant, as that's what the table was originaly designed for. I have a couple of Diamond 9ft tables myself, one with Artimus and one with Diamond K55. I like the way they both play.

Glen

PS. Actually, 2 of my friends have my tables in their garages, they play on them because I don't have the room or the time to play on my tables anymore...LOL:eek:

Rick, Does poolfelt.com sell Brunswick Super Speeds? Is there a real difference between the Brunswick branded product and Championship Tour Edition k55? With so many opinions out there it makes it diffiult to make decisions.

RKC, I'm traveling to Seattle tomorrow. I could bring a rail out if you're interested.

Hmm, how to put this.
No we do not carry the S-Speeds. We carry Tour Ed K66 & K55, Artemis K66, Velocity K66 (replaced Pro-Am), and generic U23/K55 .

As for real differences, like anything else in the billiard world I think it's a matter of opinion.
Some swear by S-Speeds, some swear by Tour Ed, some swear by Artemis, some swear by Accufast, etc. That's a lot of opinions & swearin.

We sell mostly Tour Ed. Here's a link to a copy of the > Mfg Data Sheet

There are some strong quality points for Tour Ed which you could use to compare with Brunswick, etc.
Keypoints for any cushion are consistent speed and accuracy

I can say we have not had a problem with any of the cushions we sell and our customers buy for a variety of tables and from antiques to moderns.

Only if they have spinners.

I'll be here, call me when you're in town.

Glen

PS. Tomorrow is my last day here though, I'm off to Vegas next.

Well I pulled a cushion off of one of the rails tonight and sure enough it measures just a hair under 1 1/4 inches on the backside. I'll check to see if the subrail angle is right and if so call it good.
Thanks everybody for the help. I'll keep you posted on the project.
