What was so special about this Titlist?

You're entitled to your view, however you sound more like you are trying to knock individuals for doing the aforementioned conversions more than just stating your opinion on the matter. (citing that they lack artistic creativity and originality)**Boggle** .

J.W. does quite a bit of conversions as well as exclusively J.W. cues. I dont think that I have seen a cue of his that is lacking in creativity or originality...former or latter.

I suppose we could go round and round (as I could name cue artists for a good long while whom do conversions and use blanks) on the issue, but the market for these cues I believe speaks for itself.

Mike, As I re read my post it realy does sound like Im knocking people for doing that,Truly no direspect was intended. I agree that there is a great market for those, and any cue maker should fill the needs of the buying public, and with the skills and tools some of these guys have they make very sound and high quality cues.I dont think most of them are particularly "original" for the most part, maybe a different ring here and there, But in general they use the basic look look of a rambow.which can be realy nice but not so much original.
My thought was baicly that I prefer to preserve interesting things from the past (cars includeded) But as I thought more about it this morning I realize there are so many titlist cues around that it it doesnt matter anyway. Its not like theres realy any shortage of them.

You also mentioned a lot of cue makers use blanks made by some one else. Its not uncommon at all, but as a cue maker you'll impress me even more if you'r making the whole thing from scratch.even though those are very nice cues and great looking at that. I think the true cue masters are on a different level.I cant imagine for example, telling some one about my new ernie martinez cue, then explaining that by the way he didnt make the forearm. Because at his level you simply expect him to do all the work. there are lots of cues that I would not expect that of nor do i have the quite the same appreciation for them.
I love pool, I love cues, I realy enjoy being part of the pool and billiards community. Ialso think its great to have a place to read about all the inerteresting things that come up.
Come to think of it, there does seem to be a never ending river of titlist cues on ebay, What does keep the prices up?
taker easy, Jay.

Jay, are you suggesting ALL custom makers make their own full-splice blanks?
You have any idea how expensive that is?
For those who do this part-time or for the love of it, it's not feasible.
This might shock a lot of people, cuemaking is not a profitable business.
Believe me it's not. There's not even a lot of money in converting unless the maker gets lucky and finds nice Titlist blanks for a good price. If he pays the usual going rate for it for $395, then sells the cue for $1000, how much profit does he make?
Factor in the joint collars, pin, rings, wrap if any and FINISH.
You have any idea how expensive it is now to get a nice shaft out of the shop?
Making short-splice is not that expensive.
Making full-splice is another animal.
I wouldn't pay $395 for an old Titlist now. I'd just buy a new full-splice blank.
