What was your first cue?

Plain Jane Lucasi

My first two cues were both made by Lucasi. The first, all birdseye with b&w speck wrap, the the second a LE-21 I think. Both E-bay buys, probably from Joe Rackem. Sold both of the first two to league teammates. Now I'm 6 customs deep and I haven't found the cure, not that I'm particularly looking for it.

My first cue was a dufferin that I payed about $45 for, if I recall correctly. I didn't know any better and I think it came with a 12mm or so tip on it and I ended up giving it to a kid that was pretty good already at, I think, nine years old. It's weird that I've got cues worth a couple orders of magnitude more now.

black cuetec graphite/wood for $120... had it for 6 years before it mysteriously disappeared. I suspect my dad pawned it.

The very first cue that I bought was a China made Minnesota Fats Gambler cue. I still have that cue.

Huebler 4 pt w/veneers and plain ebony butt sleeve, one shaft, softside zip case... paid around 200+ i think, on a credit card (the American way), and it was stolen out of my car 6mos later.

Balabushka

Since then I've played with Palmer, Mali, Balabushka, Schrager, Schuler, and Predator, and shafts by Stroud and Buss. The Balabushka with two shafts was $175 in 1972 -- I still have it.

Bob, nice planning and great investment. You can now add a couple of 0's to your initial cost of the Bushka to represent the present-day value.

first cue- David Howard Meucci. Was a bday present from someone who later became my poolteacher and boyfriend. He also gave me a beautiful Coker, then an Earl Strickland CueTec for breaking with. All sounds so sweet and romantic, right? Turns out he was gambling with people who couldn't pay up, so he'd take their cues for posterity, and then not wanting the actual cues, he would just give them to me.

First cue I ever bought- a Predator, when Predator first came out. We'd broken up by now, so I had to pay him for it (325- still somewhat of a gift).

I still have the Meucci, but the Coker was stolen.

I bought the most expensive Palmer model that was in their catalog in about 1973 I think, played with it for over 15 years. Gave it to another player who had no cue.
That's the life.

mali

I got one not mentioned yet. my first real cue was an old mali model number 4...it was green with a white/green specs wrap. I used that cue for years while learning at Eastway Billiards. thinking back, it played well as I remember...wish I haden't sold it, but I'm on to better things now :D . if anyone can post a pic of this cue so I can see it once more, it would be appreciated.

My first cue was a McDermott D-2. I paid $50 for it from a friend. Except for the nylon wrap, I loved that cue.

My first custom cue was purchased from a cue maker when I was in San Diego in May/June 67. I believe his name was Tex Wooley, I paid $35 and a month or so later an extra shaft for $10. The shafts had ivory ferrules, the butt I've been told is a Titilist. It doesn't have the colored veneers, they're the same as the woods in the cue, maple and rosewood or mahogany. The one thing unique about this cue was the wrap, it was white spiral leather. It weighed around 21oz and was at least 60". The shafts had a conical taper, it was a blaster;)
When I got out of the service in 70, I had a local cue maker retaper the shafts and replace the ferrules, they had both cracked. One of the shafts I had turned down to 12mm. Wasn't my 'cup of tea', so I had another shaft made to match the other. I also took the weight screw out to get the weight down to around 19oz.
I played with this cue till 85 when I quit. Cue sat in my closet till I started playing again in 2004(I've been told that my two boys used occasionally, they won't admit it though:)) It had a roll in it, so I relegated it to breaking(it breaks as good or better than most break sticks I've tried  and started the quest for a replacement;) Now I've got more wood than most poolrooms:D I wonder how much stuff I'd have if I hadn't quit for 20 years, probably would've had to build a mini warehouse:D

the first cue was a black graphite cuetec for 100 (good all around utility cue to learn with) then it was a mucci fr-1 for 300 still own both and now its a JW from 1990

This thread would be great under "Cue Talk"

Hear it Mike.. :)

BTW when I was 14 I had a Fedunka Sneaky Pete... after I got me a learnin' and a job about 10 years later I got a Jim Rempe JR-3 in 88'. The best part of that deal my uncle got me the cue, but also a Fellini Ostrich skin case for an extra 40.00.
