What is this book?

Who is this Smith fellow? Is "The Lizard" supposed to be like "The Lion"? Because it really doesn't have the same ring.
Why is the author a guy but the picture is of a teen girl? Why is she playing pool in the woods?

I've heard of this guy. I believe he brought a lizard with him to the table. And the lizard had a way of manuevering the balls and all sorts of things.

I could be wrong.
