What would you do here? (one pocket: return break)

Amateurs...all of you.

I'm no one-pocket expert (but I think I should be), but once I saw the layout, this obvious shot came to mind...

obvious solution

I think I'm probably 90-95% to make this shot. I have to kick the CB at around 25mph, which is only about 40% of my power stroke level.

I can think of maybe 4 or 5 other shots a bit more aggressive and offensive minded, but my confidence level on those other 5-rail shots is much lower, maybe around 85%. So the above solution is the one I would choose in a heartbeat.
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Wow, a lot of shots here!

I have organized everyone's shots and listed them below. In CueTable I added the each solution and possible mistake to new pages. (use page up/page down button or keyboard keys to navigate)

To keep things organized, I have started a new thread, if you would like to comment or edit any of the shots above, please go to the new thread .

Link to the new thread

Feel free to edit the layouts or add pages if you'd like. (make sure you hit page save or press "S" key before you export the data ) Also, add any coments or questions you have. This is all public; anyone can share and contribute.

2a take an intentional foul, give up a ball and play safe for sure. (macguy, cuetechasaurus;Grady's and Billy's videotapes talk about this too)

2b, find a away to hide the QB by the 10 (shag_fu)

2c, bank the 1 to our side and hide the QB by the 10

2d, bank the 14 away and stick the QB to the 15 (Tennesseejoe, macguy)

2e, bank the 5 uptable and hide below the 10 (supergreenman,AZE)

2f, hit the 14 and draw back to the 7 and 2 (Cory in DC)

2g, bank the 14 into the pack and hide the QB uptable (uwate,sixpack,Black-Balled)

2h, Kick bank the 10 and have the QB be around where the 12 is(iusedtoberich)

2i, bank the 1 back to the pack and 3 rail the QB to hide behind the 10 (Cory in DC)

ps. If you still have a better return break shot, you can post it too. I will add it to this list.

Hi Cory,
Just in case, you want to do a page save <hotkey: S> and then do Export Data <hotkey: E> when editing a pre existing layout. It's also a good idea to paste your shot in a brower address window to test and make sure things show up correctly.

Hey Cue table, all your links are to the same original layout. Anyway, another option a friend came up with is to stun the 14 to freeze on the the 15/3. Not leaveing much to shoot straight at. Export Data: http://CueTable.com/P/?@3AKvr4BCYH3...KKxh3LaiG3MKQD3NEsY3ODvD4PYkl4kYkl1kbHt1kXph@
With all these shots, you must be confident in your stroke and hit it perfect to achive perfect results. But like macguy said, you must weigh the risk vs rewards to come up with what works for your own game.

Hi everyone,

Hope you all had nice weekend in such a beatiful weather. Let's have another run of table talk for the new week.

one pocket break

This is a typical layout after a one pocket break on a tight pocket table, you have the lower pocket. Let's hear your return break shot and possibly what your opponent would do after you. be as detailed as possible and explain your thughts. This is an open ended question, so there is no fixed answer.

Also, assume you are under different situation:
playing a pro getting 10-6
playing someone even: 8-8
playing a weaker player giving 10-6

If the 12 doesn't go past the 10, I would take an intentional foul and leave the cueball up table frozen to the rail in line with the 12 so he can't see the 10.

Wei, if I were getting 10-6, I would bank the one ball one rail, hard into the nineball hoping to make the 9 or possibly the five ball, driving the cue ball three rails to get behind the 10 ball or possibly making it.

Playing even, I might bank the 14 ball one rail into the 6-8-4 hoping to get the 4 ball close to the hole. The cue ball would be drawn just enough to make sure my opponent would have a difficult combination on the 13-10 and the 1-10 with the cue ball sitting on the left side rail near the head string. The cue ball may be caroming off after hitting the 6 and knocking the 9 ball toward the 5 ball. Lots of good stuff could be happening. Worth the gamble and if it works, my opponent will be doing some soul searching.
Warm Regards,

Finally, someone likes my hero shot! And a real one pocket player at that.
