Hey, its true. 9ball has been racked the same way for how long? 60+ years. That is the game. All of a sudden Mika, Neils & a few other Europeans can't compete with SVB's break. Don't change the game, work on your break more.:thumbup:

I get your premise but you execution isn't there. It's called evolution and whether you or I agree with it, is irrelevant. That's how the game is being played. Obviously Shane has figured it out because he beat the baby 9 on the spot tourney that is the WPM back to back. Now the European tour has adopted it on big boy tables. they play that way year round and dominate the US consistently. Meanwhile we are playing a national tournament in the box. It is far from the "let's undermine Shane's break" rule
I get what you are saying but the uproar did not start until Shane's third US open. I was in the stands watching matches with Neils crying about the rack & posting rants on Facebook about it. To me that is the game. If you don't like it play 10 ball or work on your break more. As for evolution there has been more than enough without changing the rack. Now the bigger tourneys are racked like that, advantage Europe.
Well the late Barry didn't have to change that rule for the us open . Matchroom is the one who puts on the mosconi. And your statement about not changing the rack is completely off base because evolution allowed us to have th Magic rack accu rack etc and I doubt they were doing that 60+ years ago either. Didn't have Simones cloth diamond tables with tighter pockets. The game has evolved. Shane has also along with it. Side note Shane doesn't have the best record in the mosconi cup but pretty good record in the world pool masters as of late. Both have the 9 on the spot .
On the MC, it's pretty hard to perform when you know you have to carry the rest of the team, just sayin...
Other than SVB, the US doesn't have the work ethic anymore to get to that level, wait a minute that's pretty true for just about this entire generation on just about everything... Boom!
World Pool Masters is just him out there playing the table by himself. MC he has not looked comfortable since year one. If MC was all singles play I would bet he would have a much better record. Johnnyt
I don't disagree with either of y'all. Although sky and Justin are taking the game very seriously now... I hope they can back Shane up this year

There was a post the other day with the link of Chang Jung Lin playing in a tournament in Taiwan I believe where he broke and ran 9 racks of 9 ball. What you didn't see was right after his match, they switched it to 9 on the spot because most pros abroad ( not just europeans) agree that the one on the spot is far too easy for their level.
If they are using the magic rack, I agree. If they would use a rack & not let the players rack it wouldn't happen, as often. If it did it would be a hell of run. I not a fan of templates or rack your own.
I agree and would add alternate break format as well.
I did a quick review of past Mosconi Cup videos available on line.
It looks to me like the 9-ball has been racked on the spot at least since 2004.
For 1999-2003, the videos I could find make it look like the spot was under neither the 1-ball nor the 9-ball but in between them.
For 1998 and earlier, it looked like the 1-ball was on the spot.
Well, you might think so, but it would not be correct. I still remember the final in 2006 between Ronnie Alcano and Ralf Souquet. I found it just painful to watch at a World Championship level. Referee Nigel Reese racked using a traditional rack, 1-ball on the spot. Game lasted 28 games (Alcano won 17-11) and out of the 28 breaks, the wingball went in... excactly 100% of the time! (Which was a general problem throughout that whole tournament). Would they have played by todays 3point rule, Alcano (who was soft-breaking in a manner even Corey Deuel would have noticed) would in fact not have made one single legal break out of his 14. Looking at Alcano's breaks, he almost scrathed in the sidepocket on some of them, almost scratched in the corner pocket on others, making the opening shot not a skill shot at all, as he hit that 1-ball allover. Nowadays with the 9-ball racked on the spot, players at least have to have a certain skill to make the 1-ball in the side on the break.
