Believe it or not, my screen name doesn't have anything to do with pool -- it's a nickname that was given to me by a
friend, based on a display at a Chinese restaurant. :o

Since then, I've seen the word "fish" mentioned a lot in the context of pool.

Is a "fish" just a person who would be considered an easy target for sharks?

Poker example.......FISH!....If you look around the table and don't see the fish.................then you are the fish! LOL A fish is just an easy mark, or a sucker kinda.

given MY game,,,,if i gambled, i would be a fish

Great analogy....If you go into a pool hall looking to gamble and you can't spot the guy you're going to "hook", chances are you're the fish! It's even more true in poker, as pooltablemech pointed out. If you can't spot the sucker at a poker table within the first few hands you better find another game!
See you on the table................MS

A fish is a player who is easy prey for sharks, hustlers and gamblers. Normally players go fishing for easy fish. But sometimes the "fish" turns out to be a shark or the fisherman can't land him.

John - would be considered a whole school.

In researching the definition of “fish” in the Pool Hustler’s dictionary here is what I found:

Pronunciation: 'fish
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural fish or fish•es
1 a : a person who is caught
2 b : one who over-estimates his/her skills in match-ups in pool rooms
3 b : a pool player who goes elephant hunting with a bee-bee gun
4 b : someone who enters the poolroom and others say, "I seen him first!"

"Even the blind squirrel has to find an acorn once in awhile" otherwise he's a fish. Many fish like being a fish so that they can swim with the school (of fish) like masochists enjoy degradation and that game last as long as the money. If the fish bargains for the rignt spot (the nuts) then he ceases to be a fish and becomes the blind squirrel.
