What's going on with all these odd diameters on 3/8-14 threads

Some of the overall OD diameters on these ferrule tenons are 8mm, and some are 9mm? Do you have to have all these diffferent taps custom made or something just to replace the threaded ferrules on the imports & house cues now days? I know 3/8-14 can be purchased from the tooling places at a reasonable cost & that atlas carries one, but which ones work on which brand cues. I mean 1mm, that is a pretty good size gap, correct? Also has anyone seen a place that has thread chasers or dia's in 3/8-14? Any help would be apprietiated.

Thanks Greg

Greg for the most part there is no difference between house cues and import cues for the most. In fact I know of no American cue maker that makes house cues anymore, I am pretty sure they are all imported.

To answer you, I would not bother trying to keep them the same size. I just turn them down and use a standard threader, so that you can use a standard tap, I mean why go through the trouble.

Thanks Guys, but that's what I'm doing now cutting them 5/16-18. I like to keep things original when I can, but in this case It's not My reasoning for wanting the bigger tap. It's more about time. I'm starting to get alot of the newer import house cues with those threads that need ferrules. I can heat the ferrule and screw them right off. The faces end up clean enough, that It Would be nice if I could cut some corners and just screw a new one them the way they are, so I can have a bunch glued on and ready to turn down at the same times. The time involved to cut the tenon down and tap them Isn't alot of extra work per ferrule, but adds up with quanity, and well, there just isn't alot of money in the job with the arrangement I have. Ofcoarse the extra wall thickness, should cut down on the number that will break again in the future & need replaced down the line, so I guess I have to weigh that out too. Maybe I'm just thinking too much, and should stick with what I'm doing.

Thanks Craig,

I should have said 2pc import cues, as I was refering to customer cue shafts with a 14tpi too. Both those, and the house cues I'm refering to are import cues though. They are different brand names, but both 14tpi, only I've noticed the diameters are different between some brands.
