What's in a break cue?

There are many more important factors to breaking than MPH.

Don't let top speed alone make the choice for you.

Whatever works. I bought a Prulhiere cue when Brian was running a special for Christmas a few years back. I got the ebony with the fiddleback wrap. I originally bought it intending it to be a playing cue, but honestly I didn't like how it played at all. I was about to chalk it up to a loss, but then decided what the hell I'll hit a couple break shots with it. It's been my break cue ever since. This thing absolutely crushes the rack! I haven't even changed the tip since I got it, still the stock Triangle(?) it came with.

Just goes to show that you don't need to buy a specially made "break cue" to find an awesome break cue. As long as my Prulhiere is still alive, I won't be buying anything else.

Thanks for all the replies. I didn't get a chance last night to try someone's predator; it was league playoffs and pretty chaotic what with a beer rep. buying pitchers (too bad I don't drink anymore).

I'll keep using my current cue for now and keep an eye open for opportunities to try a "real" break cue.

Like what? I mean a phenolic tip is a phenolic tip regardless of the break cue you are using. This means you probably are not going to put more than 1 tip of english on the cue ball or you risk miscue. So in my mind ball control is directly tied to the tip and most break cues have phenolic.
