New unchalked / unchalked mint or ORIGINAL.

I ask because I see a lot of cues that we sold and I KNOW they got played. This means they also got "restored", but are being resold as everything but. I also pay attention to Proficient billiards site and notice some of these cues have passed through there.

So whats more important? IMHO unchalked, is not applicable after a restoration unless you clarify such. I don't have a problem with a restored unchalked cue, as long as I know it. But even we get duped occasionally.

I don't like being lied too, so as long as the seller is honest either way is ok to me.

If it's a modern living maker, the premium to me for new unchalked is very small. Cues can be cleaned up so well anymore with tips replaced, it's nearly impossible to tell if they've been played or not. As long as there's no dings, it doesn't matter to me anyway.

I don't think it matters as long as the seller is truthful about what has been done to the cue .

Refinishes should always be disclosed and by who if it was anyone other than the original maker.

Unplayed vs 99% on a cue by a living cuemaker doesn't really make a difference to me.

Restored Buskas, Szams ect vs Original condition . There would definately be a big difference . But this stuff is in a whole different class.

Here's my thoughts, for what it's worth...

The truth should be in the advertising...no matter whether it is a collectible, high-end, or low-end cue. It is soooo much easier to just disclose all the known info you have on a particular cue, than it is to try and repair a potentially tarnished reputation because you did not fully disclose a cue's true condition.

If a cue has been refinished, then say so, and disclose as to why it was refinished. Usually it's to just clean up some battle scars, but sometimes, there may be a more underlying issue...and I feel that it should be disclosed. However, for some sellers, this is likely too much to ask.

I could say that I have been very lucky in the past with having satisfied customers in my very limited cue sales...but the truth of the matter has nothing to do with luck...it has to do with honesty. :)

I'VE SENT CUES BACK, AND REFUSED TO PURCHASE OTHER CUES THAT WERE WORKED BY OTHER CUEMAKERS.

NEW UNCHALKED IS ENTIRELY DIFFERENT THAN RESTORED.

I'D PAY A DECENT % MORE FOR NEW, OVER EITHER LIGHTLY USED OR REFINISHED.

P.S. ONCE I GET LIED TO ABOUT A REFINISH, I NO LONGER DEAL WITH THAT SELLER.

I agree that full disclosure is the best practice.

I have sold a lot of cues in unchalked condition, as they were bought for the sole purpase of reselling (along with design experimentation).

I think that if the cue was played with, cleaned (or restored), than "Mint" condition is the term I would use to describe it, as it has been chalked. Will a person be able to tell? Probably not, but that's not a reputation I want to get.
