I've noticed that with everybody screaming for more tournaments that there is a big decline in the entries into them. A few tours seem to be holding there own but most are declining in entry numbers. Is it the economy or have a lot of them figured out the they have no chance to cash at most events? Johnnyt

I think if your Tourny is fun and ran fairly your numbers will remain good!

Yes I think your right, it's probably the economy in the toilet that has started the big slide of small fields in both women and mens tours. Even the WPBA even though they can fill the card with 64 easily from regionals have lost five or six of their seeded player in recent months.

IMO this economy isn't going to bounce back anytime soon either. Washington is making believe the slide is over and things are going to get better soon. This slid is going to last awhile and just about everyone will be effected by it before it's over. Over the years recessions have helped certain industries like pool, the movies, horse tracks and dog tracks, to name a few. Not this time. Too many families were living beyond their means and on the cuff ( credit cards ) than was the case in the 1970's. With bankruptcy laws change now, there is no easy way out for them this either.

It's a damn shame, but before this is over 1 in 4 of the people that bought houses in the last 4 to 7 years are in too deep with the payments. Johnnyt
 
were doing good down here in texas.Those fast eddies guys r doing a good job. and the houston and texas open always fill up. thanks to bigtruck and company

hehe. someones got it but it aint me? I think its cause its too damn hot to do anything else sometimes.
 
I quit going to the BAAT events because of the price of gas. Every event was at least a 2 1/2 hour drive for me. The spirit tour is the same distances. I did attend one that was about and hour and 20 minutes drive. I will be going to Hollywood since I have relatives down that way. But it still is about a 3 hour drive, so yeah, gas, money the economy and not cashing is keeping me home!

Gotta agree with that. My local PH seems to do well each week with tournies on Friday, Saturday & Sunday. 8, 9 & 10 ball! I guess there's just a lot of pool lovers in Texas!:)
 
What's going on

I think there's a combination of things going on; Economy is in the gutter and I agree with many that it's not getting any better any time soon; the change in format for a lot of tournaments (amatuer only vs open...not saying right or wrong just an observation); and I believe a lot of tne negativity online regarding either a players chance to ein to how bad a tournament director is, and most of all ROOM OWNERS who want to have a tournament on crap equipment. JMHO

I think it's a combination of the things you mention and your last statement hits the nail on the head. The tournaments that i've played in were loaded with talent and even real top players get knocked out by other top players so a slightly above average player really doesn't stand much of a chance jumping in with the big guns.

Agreed. But the local weekly is doing good for summer---- guess its more gas for fishing than pool. Of course you can always play "golf" on the big table.
