What's the best city for pool?

Ohio

I haven't been to all that many states but have traveled somewhat regionally. Meaning Tenn, W. Virginia, Virginia, Indiana, and extensively around my stomping grounds here in the Bluegrass State.

Ohio has so many poolrooms and many very good shortstops. Corey Duell being from West Jefferson took our sport by storm at a really young age. Jason Miller was considered a short stop until he snapped off the bank at DCC along with "Master of the Table". Shannon Murphy is an up and coming player with lots of potential. Dayton, Columbus, Toledo, Cleveland are full of very nice pool rooms loaded with quality players.

Living expenses are not that bad either. 3 br 2 ba home for less than 100k. Not really sure about apartments but as many as there is around you could probably find a nice one at a fair price. There are lots of up and coming cue makers as well.

With so much available to these folks living in OHIO with good instruction, equipment, etc. watch for future 'buckeyes'.

i lived in Troy Ohio..which is a couple of exits up from the pool hall that Jason miller shoots at..

Some really nice pool rooms and some cool people...

Now I gona rep my city Richmond Va.

There are a couple of neat places to play

The playing Field
Side Pocket (Action, Action)
Tripple Triangle
Murphey Law
Murphey Law II (My Favorite place to play..but no money action there)
There is a new place opening up pretty soon here on midlothian

But there are some people who will play for cash..not real sure if it is thousands (although i have seen it)
easy to find 50 to 100 sets here in Richmond

Washington DC and Baltimore have a lot of pool going on. There are easily 20-30 pool rooms within an hour's drive. Baltimore and DC are about 45 minutes apart.

There's the regional Tiger Pool Tour which I help run that has about 15 tournaments a year with both Open and Women's divisions. These events can be fairly tough. See the website http://www.TigerPoolTour.com. The Blaze Tour has great events mostly in New Jersey and New York which are 2-4 hours away.

There are pretty high quality weekly tournaments almost every day of the week. You're likely to run into players like Mike Davis, Jerry Slivka, Danny Green, Ryan McCreesh or Keith McCready even in a little $20 entry weekly event.

There doesn't seem to be a bunch of action anymore though I don't keep up with that aspect much.

There's lots to do in DC being the nation's capital. Baltimore is pretty big and cultural as well. Annapolis is 20 minutes south of Balt.

Cost of living? Well now there's the catch. You couldn't buy half a townhouse with the prices quoted in previous posts in Florida/Ohio.

San Antonio would be on the bottom of the list in every category except the cost of living. Pretty cheap to live here and about the cheapest major city in the nation to play pool. Pretty much free pool 3-4 nights a week if you look around.
A $200 set is huge in this town. Road players avoid this place. They'll go to Houston and Dallas and skirt SA. If a roadie does come in, the players scatter like a covey of quail. There are one or two locals that will step up, but only a couple.
Some of the nits around here wouldn't play their grandmother if she offered them the 7 out but might take the game only if she wouldn't get out of her wheelchair during the match.
Tough action to get anyone to the table in this town.

This quote is wrong. My room is 24 hours and it's mainly just $20-$100 sets. Occasionally you'll see a set for $500 but that only happens a few times in a month. It's pretty cheap action around here, but the good thing is that it's real easy to find a game. :D

Amen Brother, sounds positive to me, my only question is are you open 24 hour's on 24 December.

If so, please watch out for a fellow driving a bright red El dorado with antlers on the hood, wearing a red velvet suit.

Once long ago when I was leaving a pool room in St. Louis on Christmas Eve I ran into this fellow, he had just pulled up to the corner of Grand and Olive in down town St. Louis as I step out into the street.

At first I thought that I was seeing things, and then he said those three famous words Ho! Ho! Ho!. Well at this point I did not know what to say or do, I suspected that my Christmas that year would be pretty bad, because everyone knows that it is bad luck to see Saint Nick.

But, every thing became clear when a group of ladies assembled around that El dorado, this was not Santa Claus, this was just a Local Pimp filled with the spirit of the Yul tide.:D :D :D

Merry Christmas to you and your's and a Happy new!!!
