At 8 ball, I get the break, I give you the table, all you have to do is pot the 8 ball, one ball. I win all of the time because I can run 8 and out, no problem. it's a real sucker bet, any apa 6 can do the same thing. :D

on the apa i'm a 7, and i had to play a 2, i think the handicap was 6-2. it felt like an eternity but i won.

I gave a guy the one and the break.

He was a terrible breaker and couldn't run two balls. He would usually break and make nothing then I would make the 1 and we'd be playing even.

Won $300 at 20 a game. Guy has to be the worst player in the world to beat him like that.

I gave up 8 games on the wire going to 11 and played without my glasses and won a car out if it.

I gave up the three out and the breaks for a pizza, ended up being $80 stuck and switched to the four out and the breaks and broke even.

That's the most weight I have ever given and won or broke even.

I gave up three games on the wire going to six betting my last $30 and my car against $230. I was down 5 to 1 and won the set. That was my most satisfying win because it was against a super nit who could play pretty good.

I once gave the eight to a guy who was supposed to be able to give me the seven and ended up one set winner for a $100. I found out later that he was supposed to be giving me weight. He might have been dumping for more action but I escaped with the bennie that night.

I got bored one night and started betting $10 a game against $0 a game, made a dull game rather interesting. The few that we played i won.

i gave up 65 balls in a race too a 100 in straight pool for $500.00 and won 100 to 84,...the most i gave up in 9 ball was the breaks and the last two for 20 a rack and won 60 after 3 hours of play but it was fun,......and in 8 ball i gave up 5 racks in a race to a 11 for 200.00 and won

I was giving a scrub 3 games to 7. After three sets, he doubled up and wanted 4 games to 7. I barely won. He didn't pay. He was banned from the place until he paid me. I retired him though. :D

I don't gamble much, but I was playing in Netherlands with a guy that was pretty good player, but he demanded some weight. I think I could've given him 1 or 2 at most in a race to 7. Well, we started off with a 2 handicap for $10. I was trailing 5-0 and then it happened: I fell in dead stroke. I gotta tell you, I very rarely fall into dead stroke, I'm more of a meticulous slow player. Anyway, I took the set 7-5 and he wanted a rematch. I give him 3 to start with for $10 and won the set 7-3. Then we played the last match for $20 and somehow he talked me over giving him 4 ! Well, I won the set 7-4 ! :-) I was shooting everything. I think I missed maybe 3-4 balls during the 21 consecutive racks I took and maybe 15 from the string. I know $40 isn't much to rather anyone but it was sweet to take home $40 considering the fact that I had only $20 in my pocket and I was supposed to feed myself with that over the next week :-)

My $0.02 for a road story :-)

8-1 in one pocket. The guy tried to s..t a ball in to win.
I won but it wasn't easy. the other guy was lucky.

I imagine it wasn't easy...I gave some drunk schlub 40-3 playing one hole. It's too much of a grind, b/c he won't bet more than $200 sets to three.

Oh yeah, Mikko's story reminded me of this one. I have to tell it like it went down.

I played this guy at a tournament even for 100DM races to seven(about $50) and he beats me two sets and I am losing badly and getting frustrated. The third set I am down 5 to 0 and as I am racking I look up and ask him if wants to bet 500. He says yes and breaks. He doesn't make anything on the break and I ran out five racks on him. I broke in the sixth rack and finally came up dry. He missed a two foot one ball shot by a diamond. I won the set 7 to 5. As he paid off he barked that I could spot him four on the wire anytime. I just laughed and said it was desperation luck, which it was.

Fast forward a year - I arrived at a midnight tournament (starts at midnight) too late to get in. After about an hour of trying to buy a spot I gave up and went out to the car to sleep. Somehow I made a perfect nest because I slept like a baby. At around nine in the morning I wandered into the poolroom to see what was up and there is my old nemesis from a year earlier. We argee to start out playing races to seven for a hundred and again he beats me pretty good the first two sets and then the third set I lose 7:5 and HE QUITS. He quits me and says that he is happy to be even from the YEAR before. I am hopping mad now and calling him everything I can think of.

So I challenge the WHOLE room to play for any amount - just give me someone with some heart. Well, a guy gets up from the card table and says he'll play me if I spot him 3 on the wire going to seven. I said yeah, that shows a lot of heart but I''ll give it to him if he'll bet 500. Now I don't know this guy from Adam and I am sure his buddies know me. I ask if anyone wants side action and one of his buddies takes another 100. The guy wins the break and runs the first rack, now it's 4-0. I win the set 7 to 4. We play again and I win the set 7 to 5. He pulls up and I am 900 winner for the day. He asks me how I can come into a strange room and give up weight like that to strangers and the only answer I can come up with is that I am crazy. Turns out he should have been spotting me. I guess the IDEA of him getting weight in front of his buddies was too much pressure or the fact that he was up all night playing pool and cards while I was sleeping had something to do with it.

So I tell him that in America people are always coming up with ridiculous spots and that sometimes people even give up the break and ball in hand after the break. At this point someone else pipes up and says that they would take that spot from anyone in in the world, including Efren. (They know Efren in this room, he has been there several times). I was feeling pumped up so I said I'd give him that spot races to five for 50. He took it and tried to run out each time and I beat him the first set. The second set he played more conservatively and tied me up and won it. I pulled up and asked him if he really thought that Efren wouldn't be able to kick out of his safes much, much more accurately than I did? He realized that the spot wasn't AS big as he thought it was.

Anyway, that's the most weight I have given and won. I almost forgot about that one. Thanks Mikko.

I've played a few pro players straight up. I figure that's a huge spot, considering my game. So far it hasn't paid off very well. :)

Giving up a big spot while trolling for lambs, isn't very impressive.

APA is full of bums, so quoting your APA ranking is meaningless. :) Show me your win/loss record against real players, not wednesday night warriors.

Bring it on, chumps! Bring those ridiculous spots north of the border! LOL

cheers,

I agree, eh, but sometimes the lambs go looking for the wolves, and what are you gonna do? Some people can't stand to have money in their pockets.

Ah, yes senor. Of course, I'm full of crap and just kidding. Much better to be the wolf, than the lamb. I take my fair share of beatings, but always return to the trough.

party on, eh.

Good to hear you can take it as well as dish it...

When I was in school, I gave a guy 75 points going to 100 in straight pool and beat him 100 to 74.

I also was playing 8-ball, letting this guy pick his group after the break and take all of his balls off the table. That is an old sucker bet, similar to what Larry said above. I would win easily since his balls were all off the table. After a while we adjusted to where I would play one and stop, meaning that I could only run one ball at a time and then I had to play safe. That at least guaranteed him one clear shot at the 8-ball each rack since I had to play safe after making my last ball. He couldn't win at that either so I adjusted further by letting him call 3 pockets for the 8-ball each time he shot.

I was also playing 9-ball against two other guys in a ring game format, but we were playing 1-foul ball in hand rules, like regular 9-ball. The catch was that the two guys were playing as a team, so one of them would scratch and the next would take ball in hand. They were so bad that they couldn't win that way until they figured out that the first guy would just shoot at the 9-ball and hang it and the second guy would take ball in hand and play the combination. I ended up breaking even on that bet.

I also spotted some girl the 6-out, race to 7, loser pays for dinner. I lost on purpose, got a date out of it, and now we have been married for 7 years. The only question I have now is "who was hustling who???"

Andy,

How do you spot someone 75, and win 100-74? Is there a way to lose points in 14:1?

thx,
