Possibly the strangest situation I've had playing pool...

I was playing a league match last night and the person I was playing missed the 2ball. She left it hanging in the hole on a Diamond table. It was deep in the pocket, but I was still able to go rail first and pocket the ball. I go back to the others side of the table and shoot. As the cueball is heading towards the 2ball, the 2ball falls. I didn't contact the 2ball, just the rails then ran into a few random balls on the table, but the 2ball clearly fell way before the cueball was even close to it. What's the ruling?

The WPA rule is as follows, but I'm not sure about your league rule. What league are you in?

"If a settling ball falls into a pocket during or just prior to a shot, and this has an effect on the shot, the referee will restore the position and the shot will be replayed. The shooter is not penalized for shooting while a ball is settling."

That was what we did, set the 2ball back up and cue ball where it was... but honestly, the table was disturbed and I didn't know where all the balls were exactly on the table. I also didn't really care if I won or lost the match, it was just a funny situation.

Just time for a quick answer - citations and discussion later if you want them...

Under both WSR and BCAPL you did OK for the situation. On a deeper level, if the table could not be completely restored then a re-rack would be in order (specified in BCAPL rules.) But if the championship of the free world isn't on the line, then your solution is probably fine.

strangely enough I have had something similar to this happen during league. Opponent and I were both down to the 8 ball, they missed a pretty tough cross cut and hung the 8 on one corner, and stuck the cue ball on the corner across the table. I walked up to the table, didn't touch it, and the cue ball fell in. Had both captains agree on replacement, when I put my hand on the table the 8 fell. spotted again and won...very weird though.

I could of sworn I was magic :grin-square::bow-down:
