Just kidding, but this is why places give you the option of using an alias, Mike.

Here is another reason why. go to www.zabasearch.com and put in your name and tell me what comes up.

BTW. My real name is Jonathan Doe. :D

Damn it! People are making money on my background I do not get a cut? WTF is this

I kind of prefer a somewhat anonymous name on the Internet. If you really wanted to know my real name, I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to obtain. I reserve my real name for real life encounters and prefer an alias in the cyber-world. However, I don't mind listing my A/S/L (age/sex/location). This way, people generally don't make assumptions about me from my name.

For example, if I listed my name as Roman Polanksi, people might mistake me for a child molester...

Or if I listed my name as Juan Gonzales, people might assume I speak Spanish.

This way, if someone doesn't like child molesters or Spanish people, they won't annoy me!

what fake name???????????????,,,,,,,,,,,,,,im Bill and im a professional fisherman,,,,,,,,,,,,,we refer to them as fishheads here

I'm anonymous! :p

The funny part is if you Google Linda Carter you will get all manner of Wonder Woman and porno sites, even though she spells Linda with a Y (Lynda). If you Google Linda Carter billiards, it gets a little more accurate.

There's even a Linda Carter that oddly parallels me:

Linda Carter attends Texas A&M University and is majoring in Radiological Health Engineering. Nuclear medicine seems to be an interesting field to explore as well as a good way to connect her major with career possibilities. For Linda’s project she is working on forming Te-125m from both Te-124 and Te-125g. (I used to run a Nuclear Medicine department. The Te stands for Technetium.)

There's another one that is Director of Public Affairs/Development at U of Texas Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.

Pretty fun stuff. It's a common name. I even went to school with a Lynda Carter when I was not a Carter yet.

Hmmm, guess I will go Google my maiden name!

Well no, but that seems like a poor analogy for choosing to engage in a topical discussion.

I've posted for years to rec.sport.billiard, and there most everybody identifies themselves. It seems much more civilized like that. I've probably met up and played pool with 50 to 75 of the RSB posters. I've never heard anybody express regret for using their own name.

I understand the identity theft fears, etc. But not entering discussions under your own name seems like a bizarre overreaction to me. I suppose if not discussing pool was a condition of your parole, then you might want to hide your involvement. Otherwise so what if Joe Smith from Waukeegan, IL likes to discuss pool on the internet? geez...

Having discussions with people using secret fake identities seems wierd to me.

Maybe there's a small-town/big-city divide on this one. Those of us who live in cities tend to enjoy the anonymity of that kind of life and don't give it up too easily. In small towns, there's all that community spirit & I-never-lock-my-doors stuff that must be dandy, except that everybody knows your business.

I may think about it,if you give me your girl friend`s telephone number and your social security number with a certification from a Notary saying that they were true.

I always Google the person I am interviewing. Last week the girl we were interviewing had an odd first name, and guess what, she came up: Preferences: Lesbian. Not that I care,

but the lesson is, you had better be careful.

And like I have said before, there is always Gremlin who has threatened to kill people with one of his guns. NO SHIT. And he claims to be able to watch you via satellite anytime he wishes. If this is what you want, then go for it. Then there is D***a, who from what I hear, probably rues the day she publisized herself. What a mess that girl has gotten herself into. I hope she pulls herself out of it though, don't get me wrong. I don't really hate anyone. I just feel very sorry for her.

If this were a perfect world, then we would all would step out into the public. I can't believe that Mike is so naive. WW

How am I in a mess, Ray? Because FL is making an ass out of himself on RSB? When have I ever hid my identity? Never. That is just a myth that you and Larry started. You are still convinced that I was Yapping Wolf. Newsflash - I wasn't. Most of the crap I have received is because I am direct with people, and certain people can't handle that. Some people on this forum are upset with me because I stood up and said enough is enough with the harassment Marissa was receiving, and if some people didn't like that - too bad. I've been through the same thing, its not fun, and above all else - its wrong. If someone is going to stop being friends with me over that then they weren't worth having as a friend in the first place.

If you do a search on this and any other forum or newsgroup, you will find more funny posts than anything else. That's what I do best, making people laugh by verbalizing my twisted perspective on reality. Some people enjoy it, other people sit there and just don't get it. Some people are like you and look down upon me for being a smart ass. Big Loss.

As far as the "mess" with your best buddy FL, its his mess, not mine. I don't care what he does or what he writes - its all lies. I could care less about DM because he is nothing more than a foul mouthed crybaby that has been banned from here anyway. I could care less about FL's lies or his insanity. I keep it where it belongs until either you or one of DM's buddies bring it up over here. If you don't like my tone, then don't bring my name into any more discussions that have nothing to do with me.

im using my real middle name, but it doesnt matter much, not many people know me in the pool community as it is.

it would get confusing to have everybody using their real name when posting. imagine if everybody named mike on this forum actually had mike in their screen name. besides, whats an internet forum without the anonymous forum know it alls?

Why do people here post under silly screen names and not say who they are? It's hard tp take someone seriously when their name is cheesyhead or rackdude or something and I don't even know what part of the country they're posting from.

2 reasons why I don't use my real name:

1. I don't want people to take me seriously, and
2. My real name is soooooo DULL!

Well, some people mgiht just like to remain anonymous. It ought to be the content that is important anyway.

I happen to like my screen name, I thought it was a funny reflection of myself. I sign my posts because I stand up for what I write and I want it known that I am the one saying it.

If I were egoless and altruistic then I would post completely non-political, helpful articles addressing purely billiard topics.

People who insult anonymously are cowards and trolls in my opinion. As long as one is being civil then they retain their right to privacy in my opinon. When they cease to be civil then they still have their right to privacy but they should lose the right to post.

John - would have lost his license years ago :-))

Should I be worried???? Can you provide the link about Gremlin and his guns? And what in the heck happened with FL and Debra? Seems like Debra must have been in the right if all those guys have been banned. I for one applaud her loyalty and enjoy her humor. In fact, I wish she posted more.

to protect your identity and to prevent embarrassments. my friend's identity was "stolen" a few days ago when he forgot to log-out using a computer rented in an internet cafe. the impostor started several racist thread on our university forum where my friend (he is kinda famous around campus) used his real name as his username.

end result: i'll be damn*d if almost all the asian and european students weren't giving him the evil eye the next day. he got suspended for the statements the impostor stated on "his behalf". it really sucks being trapped in that kind of situation. :( :(

btw, nice to meet you mike, i'm Raj.:D
