What's You're Pool Cue Weight ?

20.5 oz is perfect for me. I sometimes wonder if a persons physiology has anything to do with their preferences. I'm average height (5'9") and skinny (130 pounds) and have never found any cue under 20 oz comfortable in any way. Even as a scrawny little kid I liked the 20 and 21 oz bar cues the best.

All of my Customs are @ 20.5 - 23 ozs., & 60" in length.
I have one of Joe Balsis' (personalized) Palmers, a Model 11,
that is 60" (30-30), 25.9 ozs., & (5) Original Shafts.

My player is 61" and around 21.5 oz.
I personally think the "standard" 19.5 oz/58" cue is outdated, and players like Earl and Shane are definitely onto something with their over-sized cues.

I have only had one cue so far where I could experiment, a Diveney sneaky with a 4.00oz shaft and a 14.00oz butt. After finding it difficult to control, I inquired with Pat about weight bolts. He graciously sent me all the bolts to take it to 21. I put a 1oz bolt in, and it made a ton of difference. I probably should have experimented with the rest of the bolts to dial in my preference. I sold the cue when opportunity struck. Balance is most important for me and adding one ounce moved the balance point back an inch.

I tried a longer cue, went to a 30" shaft, did not quite feel right. I went back to a 29" shaft and won 3 tournaments in a row, and continued on to win 4 out of 7 with two 2nd place finishes, while in the weeks before I went back to the 29" shaft I was not even in the money most of the time.

I started out really liking about a 19.5oz cue, maybe 20, and from watching things around me seems like many of the beginners went to the heavier cues. Nothing meant about that of-course about those that like a heavy cue, just what I have seen happen. The college kids went to the wall and picked out the 20 and 21 oz house cues, the good players had their 19oz Joss cues.

After I got better, and tried a lot more cues, I found that at 18.5-18.8 with an even balance is how I can feel and judge the hit best, the cue I have now is 18.8 with a 29" Players HXT or OB1+, both shafts seem to have the same balance and weight.

Currently and for about 18 months 15.5
May bump it an ounce for a year or so.

Shaft Weight: 3.8 - 4.2 ounces
Playing Weight (3 Cues): 18.3, 18.5 & 18.8 ounces.

Ferrule: Ivory (1")

Maybe..

I asked Pat Diviney to make the 2 players I got from him as close to 19 oz. as possible with no weight bolt. Never weighed them.

19.25 - 19.5 is what I like best. I can go down to 19 even or up to 19.75 if the balance is right. Outside of that range, a cue feels too heavy or too light to me.

I am exactly the same. my two players are 19.25oz and 19.4oz. The one exception is my Gilbert jump/break which I have at 18.6oz.
