When another ball is interfering with my intended shot - but just barely

I've been having a continuing problem that I can't seem to lick. Here's the situation. Any advice?

Say I'm shooting past the one ball and trying to pot the two ball. I look to see if there's enough room to get past the one ball and determine that it is very close, but the cue ball should just barely pass the one ball without hitting it. I get down on the shot and nick the one ball... almost every time. What's a good way to determine if the cue ball passes?

Shoot from the skid side. The ball acts like it skids around the obstacle.

Straighter in, hop it a little.

If it's that close and you often hit the ball, learn to use a little side spin to help you around the obstacle.

and or hit more of the object ball with spin to send it the way you want.

there will be a point where you have to learn where it is that you have to masse it.
