When Are You Playing Your Best Pool?

In the zone I can hit 100% of my physical and mental capabilities. My senses are functioning 100% too. I am taking in ten times or more information than normal, and sorting it without effort.
My performance in practice has yet to equal what I can accomplish in competition. Well on the In the Zone occasions. 😉
My favorite in the Zone story came playing 9 ball. I came from behind to catch up and make it hill/hill. I just knew that I would make anything I shot at. My opponent took advantage of the alternate break format and snapped the 9. 🤷‍♂️ At the handshake I jokingly needle him as taking a short cut because he was afraid. The loss still got me 4th place in the Northwest Regional A division. Kicked me up to the Masters though. 🤷‍♂️

The senses at 100 percent makes me think of watching Ronnie O'sullivan picking lint or chalk dust off the table that isn't even on the shot line.

Never thought about it but you are right about Ronnie. He isn't as bad as Johnny but definitely a lint picker. Pretty ruthless to bugs on the table too.

I watch snooker a fair amount on video. While I didn't find the game much harder I have to admit that today's snooker players are monsters. I think their skills have increased more recently than pool players have and pool players are noticeably improved.

I think I'll put an Earl length extension on my cue and paint the whole thing white.

The Devil made me do it. 😉 🤷‍♂️
My Roger Pettit sneaky made lots of money. Small but consistent money. Like hunting squirrels and quail.

Drunk Act Kelly was a Grand Master that I never fell victim to but got a chance to admire his work. Billiards was his strength. Stealth was his method.
He would show up just before the Wednesday night $5 B tournament should be concluded. First place paid around $80. Many a night Kelly got it in the end.

When it comes to taking prize money, I have taken even easier pickings. There was a weekly rodeo in Bridge City La. So named because it is right across the Huey P from New Orleans. After the afternoon rodeo was over half the cowboys headed to a bar that was just a whoop and a holler away. The challenge table was good for three or five dollars a game, about the same as the ten or fifteen dollars an hour I made back then.

It worked real well until somebody else was there, Scotty Townsend.
