As I pointed out in the snooker forum, the first link has some major errors in the numbers. Also, the author should look into the friction experiments Dr. Dave recently posted.

The second link is pretty much totally wrong. It is unfortunate that the author can't do a simple physical analysis of the forces involved and see how unlikely his suggestion is.
