When did Walmart start selling Schons???

a reply to the John Deere reference....has NOTHING to do with Home Depot - John Deere contracted out a cheaper line of lawn tractor, snow blowers, and who knows what to MTD. Similar to McDermotts lower lines of cues (Star and Lucky) made overseas (to save on costs, and compete with other imports). The difference is though - they carry the John Deere name - not this or that BY John Deere (which I think is VERY deceptive).

With Schwinn and Mongoose (bikes)...they shipped their production overseas well before they started selling at Walmart. And, I'd dare say that that choice is the reason they went to Walmart, not the other way around.

When Schon either contracts out the building of their cues to the plant that pumps out Players and Lucasi, or moves themselves there, then you all can worry. But right now, they are still made in good ole WI, and I doubt that'll be changing real soon....

politics aside,

there is no better place to buy anything than Walmart with their refund policy, how many cue shops do ya'll know of that will let you bang around a Schon on your own time and then take it back for a full refund?

similair scenario a few years back, Costco was selling Martin Logan speakers, talk about an outcry from the Martin Logan fanboys, lol, heaven forbid Joe Farmer from the country get the opportunity to listen to and purchase speakers for the upper class.......

Schons pretty much suck anyways

When I have purchased from walmart and had to return an item, they have been very nice about it. I was asked if I wanted a replacement or money back.
Wallyworld sells some goods that are amoungst the best in class for a good price at times.
Certainly they also sell what appears to be junk as well.
For a manufacturer ,you want sales, and quite a few see Walmart as the answer to that.
I saw a doco about getting a product into walmart and what was required. As been said earlier, not easy. If you can do it,then chances are you will do very well indeed.
I fail to see how a high end cue is devalued purely because Walmart is either selling or through selling an item. If such a situation arrises, you would then have to start looking into whether it was over valued to start with.
Quite a few years ago, a large company here in NZ wanted me to make a toy for them to sell. I could not make enough at the quality standard I was happy with.Their order to put some in most stores was more than I could make in a month. An other company did take up the offer, employed 12 people to make the number required, but the quality was not there in their particular product, and also the toy fad lasted about 6 months. They were left with over 100,000 units not sold, basically put him out of buisness.

In 10 years or less, Schon's will end up being like a Meucci.
Mass produced and made overseas.
A cuemaker that will do anything to make an extra buck.

Wow, they sell many types of tips too. And Porper products and many other things. All these items must be connected with a major billiard supply company.

I really hate that they went to this,,I will never look at schon again,I mean what will the fun be to go to your local room to show off your new schon and someone blurts out where did you get it from "wal-mart",,I have always placed schon at a higher level than any other production cue,but not any more,,just my .02,,,WM

Schon hasn't been on my list of higher level production cues for a long time.

I agree. One of the key marks of a quality product is attention to detail. The rounded points and inlays, which I had mentioned before, clearly shows their lack of commitment to making the best possible cue they can build. Sure, it does not add to the hit of the cue and is mainly for decoration. Well then if you're trying to pretty the cue then might as well make an honest attempt at it. I mean even the cheap chinese inlaid cues are sharp. I hate rounded points and even worse, rounded diamonds ugh!

Hey guys,

READ THE WEBPAGE! This actually Walmart Marketplace. Thus, the cue's aren't being retailed by Walmart itself.

Instead, the concept is the same as Amazon Marketplace: random retailers can sell their stuff through Wal-Mart. So basically Wal-Mart is acting like a glorified craigslist, or dare I say it, AZBilliards Forum.

A more important issue is why the retailer, CSNStores.com is carrying it. My guess is that it's just like Overstock.com, it just takes in merchandise from a variety of sources and resells them. Maybe Muellers had an overstock of inventory, like someone suggested earlier. Or maybe a pool shop closed down?

I'm just gonna quote myself again, since it seems only 1 other person has read this.

Wal-Mart is not selling these cues guys. A 3rd party retailer is.

If Muellers or Seyberts decided to also use Wal-Mart Marketplace, I bet we would be having the exact same argument for no reason. Buying from the Marketplace is almost the exact same as buying from the 3rd party retailer itself.

The point is, Wal-Mart is just a middle man. They have nothing to do with the quality, production, or even supply of the cues. So don't get it twisted!

Okay guys stop speaking in such sloppy ways.

From now on, please don't imply that WalMart is actually selling cues, clearly specify that WalMart Online is merely acting as a middleman in a drop ship vendor relationship. You may possibly say that you bought your Schon "through WalMart Online," perhaps, but that will be testing some patience. There really should be no confusion here.

And make sure everybody reads every single post thoroughly, and cite your sources when you can.

I hope I don't need to put this in red.

Although my high hopes of quitting my job with middle fingers flying and playing in a WalMart uniform may now be dashed (you did read that post, right?)...

Sam's Billiard Club

Maybe they will start opening pool rooms...or pool tables in the back corner.

Yeah, just the other day I went to Wal-Mart and used a Wall Cue to beat a guy
out of my grocery bill.......Showed the receipt for the groceries and got free table time.

The sets ran long but, thankfully it was a Super Wal-Mart and we could play 24 hours x 7.
Otherwise, they would have kicked us out at 2am in the middle of the last set.

They will call them "Sam's Billiard Club"....and your Sam's Club Card will work there.

This thread is another example as to why you should do your home work before you post. Archer played with a Schon. Now he shoots with a cue made over sea's like SVB.
