when do you start to give weight to a player?

I'm a bar room player, And I shoot pretty fair. But it seems like every time I walk in place where someone knows me or seen who I use to hang with. Everyone else starts asking for a spot. I mean I don't mind spotting someone if they're willing to lose a lil. But most bar players will only lose $30 or $40.

I've tried everything I could think of. ANYONE have any tips on this.

I'll play you even after the Tuesday bar table 9 ball tournament at Will Henry's Tavern in Stone Mountain if you would like. I'm Eric and I'm there nearly every Tuesday. There's usually a few others too who just like to play and bet it up a little...

PS: the tournament starts at 9 pm & is $5 to enter, house matches the pot, double elim., Texas express rules... More for fun and friendly competition. We like to match up afterwards...

That's what people do. There is a guy I know who plays just a hair better than me, but everytime I see him he asks for 9-7 one pocket.

Some guys just want a lock. I told him I'd rather just give him some money than accept a game that out of line. Just find some guys who are actually willing to play a fair game. I know that's a pretty strange concept for some, but there are those who will actually play without stealing.

If you are clearly better than them, then they need a spot....gambling is playing when your chance of winning is 50/50.....playing a better player even is more commonly known as donating.....

As stated, play better players....they will always be willing to play you even.....everybody is looking for an advantage....if you do it cheap enough, the money lost might just bring your game up a level....

To me, this is one of the consequences of league play today. Now, don't get me wrong, leagues have done a lot of good for the sport too. However, since they are handicapped, it seems like the first words out of everybodys mouth these days is "what's the spot?"

I don't know of anyway around it, so you either have to turn them down, or give up a little weight. Sad part is, once you beat them with a little weight, if you can even get them on the table for a fair game, they are done. Next time they will want a lock on the game, not a fair game. So, you end up getting used to playing by yourself, or have to go to other places.

I don't think it's about handicapped leagues as much as it's a cultural thing.

There are rules of engagement, and one of those is that the person who throws out the first offer better have it lopsided on his side.

Other guy: What are ya gonna spot me?

you: Are you out of your freaking mind, YOU need to spotting ME!

So now you're back to neutral, and the negotiations can continue from here.

I'll give weight as long as its a fair game but hell nobody wants a even game anymore ppl wants a gemme game. I rather just have them kick me in the bals and take my money as to give up last 4 and break, or 6 or 7 out.

where is that tournament your talking about? I'm from Dalton, Ga. but would love to find a few good tournaments kinda close.....

I agree with this statement 100%.

Problem is most people want a sure thing and don't want to gamble.
I have zero respect for that.

I will give a spot, sometimes an insane one and have refused to gamble with players who could not afford to, or had no chance of winning.

On the other hand I have run into masters that would not give me a spot even when they should. Sometimes, I donate, sometimes I win.
