I am supposed to be having new Powder Blue 860 Simonis put on my Gold Crown IV this weekend. in all honesty i probably didnt do a very good job of cleaning (brushing, vacuuming, damp cloth, Quick Clean, etc) the old Tournament Blue 860 and i am just wondering when the old cloth comes off if there will be a ton of chalk dust on the slate? and if so, whats the best way to get it off without it going all over my carpet?

Yes there will be a fair amount. Vacume and a damp rag, if your seams are plaster of paris be careful with the water, wax or bondo no problem.
You may need to re do the seams anyway.
 
I use a shopvac with the round brush. Then I wipe it down with a wet cloth and rinse the cloth out and do it again. I am very careful to get everything off the slate before the new cloth goes on. The last thing you want under the new cloth is a shopvac:p
 
My guess is that if you are having the cloth put on by a mechanic...they will do all that for you...

If they start putting the new cloth on before cleaning the slate....I would stop them and say nevermind...I will call someone else:wink:
 
I just put Simonis 860 on my table. Had Championship on there prior for 3 years. I was surprised how clean the slate was....I vacuumed maybe 3 times a month and used Quick Clean on the cloth. I also brushed the table regularly........ :rolleyes: Who knows what's best......I know for the Simonis I'll probably buy their cleaner.....the cloth's way too nice to mess with.
 
I think your concerns may be a bit overblown. A couple of months ago I had the opportunity to watch a couple of mechanics flipped the cloth on a number of pool tables at a rundown hall. We're talking cloth that's been on the table for years, the owner doesn't do anykind of maintainance. Slate were pretty clean. If you want, wipe down the slate with a damp cloth.
 
You may consider buying a Simonis X-1 cleaner. From what I've read on this website, it does a great job. I've just ordered one because a new Simonis 860 cloth was just installed. I'm reluctant to use those chemical sprays (and even more so after I've read about them on this thread). Although a lot of players like to use a damp cloth to clean the table, there are some that warn against that because of stretching the cloth. Brushing really doesn't get the chalk out and vacuuming may also stretch the cloth. So that left the X-1 for me to try.

The X1 removes chalk dust, not chalk marks. A damp microfiber towel works fine for the chalk marks and won't affect the cloth.

Agree with BRKNRUN that whoever is doing the work should cleanup the slate before installing new cloth. A wet rag works
well and you can watch the slate magically dry out. A bit of fanning with a piece of cardboard speeds the drying.
