Winner always pays time just about everytime down here in the South. Just a tradition unless stated before you start playing.

Thought that applied anywhere (like Shorty said, in most cases, depending on amount won versus pool time) - it's proper pool etiquette. I've heard that people up north will also quit winner, which we don't do down here. Is this just a southern thing?

I did this weekend. I paid the majority of the time, and it took almost half of what I won. He bought me another drink for it, so all is good.

After that, I played a guy for some higher stakes. One race to 5. I didn't pitch anything in at all because they had the table for the past 5 hrs. I won the first set, he didn't want to play again, I went home.

I guess it depends on how cordial the other guy is and how long you were playing.

I always................

I always pay for the time if I'm playing a "Local".
If I'm playing a "Visitor", I get it straight BEFORE the match unless I win more than a couple of hundred, and then
IF I GET IT ALL - I PAY IT ALL!

Hey, you southerners are more than welcome to quit as a loser!

Tommorow is a new day...I don't quit anyone while I am ahead however holding off a comback can be tough....I have been known to stall till last call :D

One of my fathers favorite lines."A fool and his money soon part"

I wonder if Tony Roberto(SP?) picked up the table time in Boston after his buddy hijacked the 34k from under the table.Thats how they do it in the far north....

Hey don't lump us all in with him.....Like there is no scum bags down South or any where else... :D Tony probably skipped on the time also....

I'm from New York and it is considered extremely bad action to quit while up. I mean, that could cause a fight in most of the rooms I've played out of.

As for the table-time, I always take care of table-time when I win, so long as it's less than half of my winnings.

I don't usually quit when I'm up either. I've done it. Usually only when I'm short on time, and I always let someone know that I can only play for a hour, or until a certain time. That is to keep my wife happy, can't stay out all night long and stay married *l*.

I quit up one time on a guy because he had NO chance of winning. Beat him 26 straight games playing sets. All but the first two games was a race to 5 for fifty. We played twenty seven total games. He won the one game because I scratched on the 9 and gave it to him.

Didn't think it was right to just keep taking his money, he was never going to win that night. And I still play him from time to time.

If no one wins more than a hundred we usually play a game of three ball for the time locally, out and about I'll pick it up if I win anything.

Yes, I have to agree with this sentiment.

Seriously, when I was in Las Vegas in 2003, my BCA team had to endure some pretty harsh comments which were totally unfounded from a North Carolina Team. We were towards the end of a match when one of my teammates was safe on the 8-ball. He kicked, missed it on the way in yet hit it on the way out and managed to hit a rail afterward. His opponent walks up, grabs the cue-ball and says, "Ball-in-hand, right?" Well, it wasn't and an argument immediately ensued because the match rested on this situation (my team was on the hill).

As it turned out, two people were filming the game for the other team but unfortunately, one was blocked when the shot occured and the other guy "had to go". So, as we're dealing with the referees, and talking to spectators, the other team (and their friends) proceeded to say things like, "See, that's what happens when you play a team from New York" and "Nothing but a bunch of scumbags from New York." We literally had to endure these comments (which were made rather loudly) through-out. My teammate (who is from Korea) was told to go back to China before he got his ass whooped.

Now, keep in mind, we hadn't said ANYTHING regarding their region. I've always considered such comments as EXTREMELY disrespectful. To suggest that my place of origin is a sign of lack of integrity or honesty was about as insulting a comment they could have made without knowing any of us. The comment about my Asian teammate should have been enough to get that team expelled from the BCA. In the end though, we won the argument, won the match and the other team got a hold of the videotape. When they saw the legal hit, they sought us out and apologized for their rude behaivor but honestly, the damage was already done. I viewed them as obnoxious, prejudiced and unsportsmanlike. I thought their actions were meant to intimidate us and their apology was only made so that they can go to bed thinking they're good people.

I know that many say these comments about The North for fun but these comments can quickly get out of hand and after that episode, I take offense to them. You can believe what you want about us. Just keep it to yourself. There's no need to tell the world about it and there's no obligation that you come up and visit.

The mistake y'all made was winning that war. Gives southerners the right to pick on you for all eternity :)

What's some of your best stuff about Yankees....not that I will but I can come up with a Shi t load on Southerners...which I also hear is a standard weight and measure down South :D

So, it is ok to critical of a specific team from "North Carolina" since you are not saying that about all teams from North Carolina. Was their mistake that they were ragging New Yorkers and Koreans in general instead of being specific like you were?

I think when someone is being stupid, I have a perfect right to be critical of their stupidity. Do you need further explanation?

No, now I am clear on who has the right to be critical and who doesn't.
