Where are the better-than-leather tips?

I make the Ninja tip, and I shoot with them exclusively. They hold their crown better, and mushroom very minimally. I played and broke with the same cue for six months and I never had to shape the crown. The consistency and accuracy far exceeds any leather tip I have ever played with.

Very interesting...I will have to give one a try. Any more details you could give about the tip and the material would be great. Thanks!

actually wood isn't the best material to make baseball bats out of. but if they allowed aluminum in the MLB, then there will just be way too many home runs. i believe that there is a better material than leather for cue tips, and if you ask an organization like NASA with a ton of budget and resources, they could come up with something. but relatively speaking, cue tip industry isn't that big to spend billions of dollars researching

Tip

A tip that impressed me quite a bit was the tip that was developed for the X-Jumper. It contained leather, but was unlike any leather tip I had ever seen before. To feel it was like feeling a phenolic tip, but it held chalk better, and jumped as well as phenolic but with the grip and control of leather.

I can't remember his name, I think it was Richard Chen, that produced the X-Breaker and X-Jumper. I have wondered several times about him, and hope his health is okay. I miss his products and his communications about his business he had. Does anyone know how he is doing today?

Sorry I took so long, had a hard time finding this thread again. The Ninja tip is synthetic (which you already know), it is jet black so it makes for a very fine looking tip. As to exactly what the material is made out of I can't divulge this information, but the proof is really in the pudding anyway. You should try them out and decide for yourself.

Thanks,

thx for the info, i am interested and will try one out. is the tip layered or a solid block?

do you think you could post a picture of the tip, either loose or installed on a shaft?

Richard Chan, I heard he's doing well... living somewhere in Canada or something. He had a great enthusiasm for making innovative products. Really nice guy but I think he gave up the pool industry altogether.

They need to come up with a tip that eliminates the need for chalk. That would be awesome... no more dirty hands, clothes, cleaner tables, less skid from dirt particles on the balls, etc...

There out there just need to listen to what some cuemakers are doing.

It isn't always just the tip- I just got a 1983 Joss, The wood is so pure staight gained the shaftwood looks as pure as the hands of gods. It is good construction methods, woods ,glues and craftsmenship- spining wood doesn't mean craftsmenship. Danny Janes , Bill Stroud and Tim Scuggs- combined to make some of the best hitting playing cues ever made!!!! What kind of tip do you want to hear about or see- how about fishskin- 40 layers, tiger skin tips, Elephant skin, Ringlizard, kamoto dragon, killer whale,Ostrage-

I've been experimenting with a cue tip made from the foreskin of the Great Canadian Yak. They are harvested during mating season, cured, and tanned. Alas, I think I might switch back to leather, these Yak foreskip tips just have too much squirt :rotflmao1::rotflmao1::rotflmao1:

Happy Friday everyone!

Speaking of alternative tips ... I just recently was circumcised and figured for a completely personal custom cue I would use the "material" as my new cue tip. I found that at times it hit with a very hard feel yet at other times, especially after drinking a lot, it had a very soft, almost flacid feel to it. I also noticed that it was very inconsistent as it tended to violently deflect in the direction of the prettiest woman in the pool hall.

I may cut it off my cue, but I almost can't bare to do that again. :)
