Where are the largest population of serious players that go out and play every day?

I am curious where the largest population of serious pool players live (not including the really big cities of over a million people).

This may be a really stupid question, but I am just curious where all of the serious players are (or all the players that just love going out and playing pool every day)?

I have been in Evansville IN for 10 months, and there seems to be mainly just league players that just go out a couple nights a week for league.

I grew up shooting pool in the 90's in a little city called Carbondale IL (a city of less then 30,000 people), and there sure were a lot of players there for such a small city.

Pool seems to have really died over the years, and does not seem to be as popular as it was back in the 90's.

I remember going out to the bar every night, and there would be like 10 stacks of quarters from people (non serious players) that wanted to get on the 4 bar tables (that my local bar had) by playing the winner of the next game.

These days, if there is no league going on, or a tournament get together, then there are hardly any players (if any) around, and usually completely dead if it is not a league night or tournament night.

Just curious about some places here in the US where pool is still very popular.

I hope I will get some nice replies about this.

I really want to relocate somewhere where pool is still very popular to a lot of people (that love to go out a lot to play, and not just on league nights).

I have kind of lost the love for the game, because it is so depressing walking in to these completely dead pool rooms, and not being able to find any decent players to shoot with, and on the rare occasions that I have found a good player to shoot with, they just wanted to gamble (no interest in just playing for fun).

Sorry for the rant.

I hope for some nice replies.

Thanks

Try making a stop on fort Wayne in the pool. Up at the corner pocket they seem to have a good turn out most nights. The last four times I've been in there I got money games offered to me by people I don't see on a regular basis. Just a thought not a huge city but not tiny either.

Cape Girardeau, MO is the only area that I know of that has a lot of serious players. They used to (and probably still do) have a pretty big weekly 9 ball handi capped tournament every Friday (in the colder months, not in the summer time). I always loved going on road trips down to Cape. The billiard center there is a great pool hall. I miss that place. Have not been there in a long time.

If you find it please keep us posted...

Wait a minute, you want to find plenty of serious players that don't want to gamble? That might be a tall order.

I know you ask about America. I know of no places like that in America I'm sorry to say.. Burt here in the Philippines in Cebu City there are two places where you can always get a game, take your girlfriend just to watch the good players or go with one of your buddies to knock the balls around a bit. The most popular of the two places is called "Cues". I go there once a week with my wife. I live about an hour drive south of Cebu City. My best friend from America lives in Cebu City and he and his wife go there every day. I've seen Ronnie Alcono there. He's one of the top rated players in the world. At a different place my wife and I watch Dennis Orcollo play for hours in a small tournament. He even sat at our table with us and had a very enjoyable talk with us At that time he was the number two ranked player in the world. There is one other place called "Playboys" where they never play for money, just play pool because they love playing it so much. When Alex Pagalayan in is Cebu City he always stops in at Playboys to play. He's another one of the top players in the world. From 9am until midnight you have to wait to get a table if you want to play. I think he has 10 tables. Cebu City is the oldest and second largest city in the Philippines. Both my wife and I love going there, sometimes to shop and sometimes just to visit the pool halls. We also get together with 15 of our friends from America once a month.

Michigan!!

Tournaments everywhere and "wana bees" all over the place. Hell??? Im one of them,,,wana bet???

Our C's a re really B's,,and our B's are A's. Our A's are asses!!!!!LMAO

Take a look at the finals from the last few years in Las Vegas for BCA/ACS,,,and APA. You will see MI players all over the board.

I like to play really cheap by the game, but the good players just want to play for much bigger money by the set. A guy came up to me the other day and asked me if I wanted to play some "cheap" $50 banks. That was cheap to him, lol. I told him that I could not afford to play for that much, but would play some really cheap 9 ball by the game, and he said "no, that is too boring". Have the good players lost all love for the game, and only care about betting money on it?

Memphis.

Google Highpockets

I think it had alot to do with the owners involvement.

Several nights a week, tables arent available.

Times have changed in SD. My home town of 600 used to have 5 tables and 7 VNEA teams in the late 80's. Now there is not one table in town.

Rapid City would have been a place to fit your request then. I don't know what it is like now.

There are a few very good players in Sioux Falls that would be happy to play for the competition.
